Vernon Doyle Rawls, age 57, of Shawnee passed away on Thursday, October 17, 2019 in Oklahoma City.
He was born November 28, 1961 to Haskell “Doyle” and Leota (Gregg) Rawls.
Vernon was born in Shawnee and raised in St. Louis, OK. He attended school in Maud and graduated from Maud High School in 1981. He lived all of his adult life in Shawnee.
Vernon married the love of his life, Kathryn McCutcheon on September 5, 1992 in Shawnee.
He retired from The Oklahoma Department of Transportation.
Vernon enjoyed hunting and fishing. He loved watching Bigfoot and Werewolf movies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 1 sister Loretta Humerick; 1 son-in-law, Rickie Nichols; and 1 sister-in-law, Toni Rawls.
Vernon is survived by his wife; 1 daughter, April Nichols; 2 sons and 1 daughter in law, Bryan and Nicole Rawls of Bethel and Stephen Rawls of Shawnee; 4 grandchildren, AnnaBelle Nichols, Ryker Nichols, Skyler Rawls and Amber Rawls; 1 very special nephew whom he thought of as a brother, Erick Rawls; 1 sister, Norma Rawls; 1 brother, Stephen “Shorty” Rawls; and many other family and friends.
Pallbearers will be Chad Chotkey, Tanner Collins, Robert Gregg, Jerrod Gregg, Jeremy McCutchen, Carolyn Flores, Donald Lorentz, and Robert Spencer. Honorary Pallbearers are Erick Rawls, Rick Nichols, Jr., Steven Nickels, Kitty Jones, Chad Rowan, Poncha Silva, and Zane Feken and Kelly Reed.
Visitation will be from 12:00 Noon to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, October 21, 2019 and continue through service time with the family gathering to meet with friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Service will be 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 22, 2019 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Jeff Nance of Temple of Praise, Seminole, Reverend Donna Morton of Living Waters Church, Meeker and Reverend Brent McCutcheon of Calvary Pentecostal Church, Shawnee, officiating. Burial will follow at Wanette Cemetery in Wanette, OK under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
The family requests for everyone to wear camo and bring fishing poles.
