Vernon Eugene McGee, 85, of Bethany, Oklahoma passed away on Thursday, February 25, 2021 in Oklahoma City.
He was born August 23, 1935 in Macomb, Oklahoma to Vernon Tee and Effie Lorene (Hogan) McGee.
Vernon grew up in Macomb, then the family moved to California. He graduated from Oakdale High School, Oakdale California.
He married Elizabeth Ann (Lunstrum) in Van Nuys, California on February 18, 1956.
He lived most of his life in Edgewater, Colorado where he was an offset pressman for Woehmyer Business for 31 years. He also served on the Edgewater Fire Department for 24 years where he retired at the rank of Chief. He moved to Bethany Oklahoma in 2020.
Vernon was a member of the Masters Printers Union, Colorado State Firefighters Association, The International Association of Fire Chiefs, U.S. Department of Labor Federal, State, and Local OSHA Inspector, Federal and Colorado Arson Investigator, 1 of 3 to establish Jefferson/Gilpin County Arson Prevention (Investigation Team), Colorado State certified mechanic and Safety Inspector, and a member of Beth Eden Baptist Church.
Vernon enjoyed traveling and making trips with family in their camper and motor home. He loved music and playing the guitar. He was a loving husband and Father and gave generously to his community.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Vernon Tee McGee and Effie Lorene McKinney; and daughter, Vicki Jean Emmitt.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Elizabeth of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Beth Anne & Douglas Palm of Colorado; son and daughter-in-law, Kevin Eugene and Viki McGee of Kansas; son-in-law, Ron Emmitt of Colorado; 7 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; 3 brothers, Melvin and Jeri McGee of Oklahoma, Bobby McGee of Colorado, and Billy McGee of Nevada as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and other family and friends.
Service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, March 12, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Barry McConathy officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
