Velma (Marsh) Washburn

Velma Marsh Washburn, aged 93, departed this life on October 21st, 2024. She was preceded in death by her husband of fifty years Darrell, her parents Frank and Elizabeth Marsh, brothers Buddy and Edward, sister Betty Marsh Grogan and husband JB, sister-in-law Bernice Washburn Young, brother-in-law Walter Loren Washburn, Charlie Washburn, Bill Washburn, and by Glen York, her best friend and companion in the later years of her life.

Velma is survived by her daughters Laura George and husband Phil, Louise Washburn, four granddaughters Adrienne Proctor and husband Trey, Alissa Henry and husband Michael, Ashlie Evans and husband Kory, Catherine Taber and husband Ryan, one great-granddaughter Parker June Evans, five great-grandsons Asher and Harrison Proctor, Gabriel and Ronan Taber, and Pierce Evans, brother Jack Marsh and wife Melba, sister-in-law Janeen Washburn and Joyce Marsh, brother in law Orville Washburn, Eldon Washburn, and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins that made up her extended family.

Velma was born in Tecumseh, Oklahoma on January 24, 1931 to Frank and Elizabeth Marsh.  She graduated from Harjo High School in 1948, where she played basketball and participated in various tournaments throughout the county and district, helping bring home trophies for her school.

She worked for several years for the Oklahoma City County Health Department, then later for the State of Oklahoma DHS, retiring after 20 years. She was a longtime member of the Del City Church of Christ and Ridgecrest Church of Christ in Midwest City.

Velma was a tireless volunteer and served on many faith-based programs, including Meals on Wheels and the Christian Service Center in Oklahoma City. She loved Oklahoma history and visited many historic sites, parks and deserted towns.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, October 24 and continue through service time at Cooper Funeral Home.  Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 25, 2024 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Steve Chisholm officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, with interment at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Tecumseh, OK.
