Tommy Eugene "Pops" Walker Obituary

Tommy Eugene “Pops” Walker, 72, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away from this life on Sunday, June 29, 2025.

He was born October 12, 1952, to Preston Eugene Walker and Thelma Lee Irving in Los Angeles.

He met the love of his life, Leona Taylor, in May of 1971 when he was 19 and she was 17.  They were married three months later on September 3, 1971, in Nicoma Park, Oklahoma.  They shared 49 years of love and laughter until her death on August 17, 2020.  Out of this union came two boys, John-Thomas (JT) Walker and Jason Lee Walker.  They made their home in Tecumseh in the early 1980’s and both boys went to Tecumseh schools.  Tommy and Leona raised their boys in the Highland Church of Christ in Tecumseh.

He worked in construction and was a Millwright by trade.

Pops was a loyal family man and loved to be anywhere his wife and family were.  Tommy and Leona “Mue” went to over fifteen Jimmy Buffet concerts over the years and he enjoyed those concerts and trips with his family and friends immensely.  The lights of his life were his three grandchildren, Josie Taylor Walker, Brody Eugene Walker, and Jaxon Cash Walker.  He came to as many events of theirs as his health would allow at school or on the ballfield. They were very involved in his life, and he was in theirs.

He was preceded in death by the love of his life, Leona Walker; his parents, Preston Walker and Thelma Bennett; and brother, Steve Walker.

Those left to cherish his memory are two sons, Jason Walker of Tecumseh and JT and Mindi Walker of Tecumseh; 3 grandchildren, Josie Taylor Walker, Brody Eugene Walker and Jaxon Cash Walker; sister, Patsy Rose; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.

Graveside Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, July 12, 2025 at Tecumseh Cemetery Pavilion with Robby Kinsey officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
