Thomas “Tom” Cox, 77, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, January 26, 2020 in Shawnee.
He was born May 16, 1942 to Joseph William and LaVeta Rebecca (Morgan) Cox in San Angelo, Texas.
Tom grew up in the Altus and Lawton area. He graduated from Altus High School in 1961. Thomas has lived in Shawnee since 1998.
He married Shirley Marie McIntyre on February 12, 1972 in Lawton, Oklahoma.
Tom drove a truck most of his career and retired in 2000. After retirement he ran the Pink Senior Citizens Center, served as the mayor of Pink for 3 years from 2002 to 2005 and managed the Brown Cemetery for many years.
He was a member of Pecan Valley Baptist Church and a member of the Masons from 1994 to 1995. Tom loved to fish, play golf and was an excellent carpenter and woodworker. He enjoyed spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and LaVeta Cox; and sister, Bette Smith.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Shirley Cox of the home; 1 son and 1 daughter-in-law, David and Jennifer Cox of Shawnee, OK, 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Cindy Garrison of Roosevelt, OK, Laura and Marc Coley of Earlsboro, OK and Kim and Joe Daugherty of Shawnee, OK; 11 grandchildren, Shelby Longo, Cale Garrison, Kinna Tutten, Kody Dow, Samantha Coley, Amberly Cox, Jake Coley, Jacey Cox, Destiny Daugherty, Jocelyn Daugherty and Trinity Daugherty; 2 great-grandchildren, Ivy Longo and Reagan Green; brother, Tone Lane and Sandy Cox of Sun City Center, FL; sister, JoVeta and James Thrasher; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2020 and continue through service time. Family gathering to greet friends and family will be from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, January 30, 2020 at Cooper Funeral Home. Service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, January 31, 2020 at University Baptist Church in Shawnee with Pastor Justin Dunn, University Baptist Church officiating. Committal Services will be 2:30 p.m., Friday, January 31, 2020 at Highland Cemetery in Lawton, OK with Pastor Timothy Tutten, Sr. officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
