Sarah E. (Fundis) Tillman

Sarah E. (Fundis) Tillman, 88, of Wanette, Oklahoma passed away Wednesday, May 12, 2021 in Purcell. 

She was born at the old ACH Hospital in Shawnee, Oklahoma on December 12, 1932 to Charles and Mary C. (Dawson) Fundis. 

Sarah was raised on the family farm in Wanette and graduated from Wanette High School.  She attended Oklahoma A & M and earned her Bachelor’s in Education degree.  She lived in Tulsa for 50 years and recently returned to the family farm in Wanette. 

She married Robert J. Tillman on June 30, 1956 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wanette, Oklahoma.  He preceded her in death. 

Sarah was an elementary school teacher before she began and raised her family.  She took great pride in raising her sons in the Catholic faith.  She loved to watch her son’s play sports.  Sarah enjoyed Big Band era music, was an excellent cook, and had a colorful way of expressing herself with friends and family.  She never knew a stranger and enjoyed visiting with anyone and everyone.  Sarah enjoyed golf and lived her life to the fullest.  She was very close and tight knit with her family and enjoyed spending as much time as possible with them. 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert J. Tillman; son, Robert D. Tillman; granddaughter, Madison I. Tillman; her parents, Charles and Mary C. Fundis; sisters, Valye Fundis, Mary Caroline Pybas and husband Gordon and Edna L. Bremer and husband Curtis. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, James Charles Tillman; sister, Charlene Fundis; nephews, Charles D. and Brooke Bremer; nieces, Julianne and Chris Kugle and Mary C. and Mike Bauer; grandsons, Bryan and Italie Weatherford and Liam Tillman; granddaughters, Sarah Tillman, Abigail, Lydia and Shelby; great-grandchildren, Camron and Georgia Kay, Nathan and Brittanie, Charlie Rose and Emma, Dominique, David and Presley; great nieces and nephews, Blair, Kate, Charlie, George, Blake and Braden; and many loving friends and extended family. 

The family has requested that memorial contributions be made to St. Mary’s Catholic Church, or a charity of your choice or flowers. 

Visitation will be 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 18, 2021 at the Fundis Family Home in Wanette.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Wanette with Father Adrian Voderlandwehr and Father Joseph Reddy Duggempudi officiating. Burial will follow at Wanette Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
