Rosa Lee Carter

Rosa Lee Carter, 92, lifelong Shawnee, Oklahoma resident passed away Tuesday, November 10, 2020 in Meeker. 

She was born August 26, 1928 to Willie and Edna (Parent) Brady in Shawnee, Oklahoma. 

Rosa was married to James S. Carter and he preceded her in death in 1990. 

She worked at Independence/Rose Manor Nursing Home as a nurse’s aide for 32 years. 

Rosa was a proud member of Absentee Shawnee Tribe.  She enjoyed cooking, camping and gardening. 

She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; 2 daughters, Lela Carter and Delores Carter; 2 sons, Andrew “Bodie” Carter and John Joseph Carter; 3 sisters; and 2 brothers. 

Survivors include 3 daughter, Maxine Carter of Shawnee, OK, Lois Carter of Meeker, OK and Letha Carter of Shawnee, OK; 3 sons, Thomas Carter, Washington, OK, Frank Carter of Meeker, OK and Larry Carter of Shawnee, OK; 19 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great grandchildren; 1 sister, Pauline Johnson; and numerous extended family. 

Tribal Rites will be Thursday evening, November 12, 2020 at ­Horseshoe Bend with George Blanchard officiating.  Burial will be Friday morning, November 13, 2020 at Wakolee Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
