Ronald “Doc” Wayt, 85, resident of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away peacefully in his home Friday, May 26, 2023.
Ronald Melvin Wayt was born on June 6, 1937 (in his Grandmother Eden’s home) in Kansas City, Missouri to Virgil and Bernice (Edens) Wayt.
Ron attended Putnam City High School, Oklahoma State University, Central State University, and the University of Missouri-Kansas City, College of Dentistry (1965).
Doc began practicing general dentistry in downtown Oklahoma City. He relocated his practice to Talihina then finally Tecumseh where he retired after 45 years of professional practice.
Ron was actively involved in his school 4-H program, winning many awards and receiving high recognition. He was also involved in showing and judging contests ranging from horticulture to livestock. Doc was an outdoorsman. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at the gun range. Ron taught his children and grandchildren marksmanship and firearms safety. When he wasn’t at the range, you could find him hunting or fishing. Doc was a loyal friend and father who cherished time with his family.
He was a volunteer for the Tecumseh Police Department and Pottawatomie County Sheriff’s Office as a Reserve Deputy; Life Member of the Oklahoma Rifle Association; Life Member of the National Rifle Association; Firearms Instructor; and Self-Defense Act Instructor.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
His memory is treasured by his two daughters, son, and their spouses: Tina and Kirk Clawson of Blanchard, Oklahoma, Roni and Melvin Smith of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, and COL Rusty and Michelle Wayt of Camp Zama, Japan, ten grandchildren and spouses; Chyann, Hollie and Jesse, Bowdrie and Amber, Stetson and Audrey, Bailey and Kenton, Lydia and Ben, Elizabeth and Shawn, Jordin and David, Joel, and Ava; 14 great-grandchildren; Sister and brother-in-law, Saundra and Sonny Tafoya of Lexington, Oklahoma, niece and nephews; Darla, Reagan, Randy, Dugan, and many other family and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, May 31, 2023, from noon to 8:00 p. m. and continue until time of service. Service will be held at 11:00 a. m. Thursday, June 1, 2023 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Ryan Giles officiating. Committal service follows at 2:00 p. m. at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Oklahoma City under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
