Robert “Bob” Pickard, age 82, of Shawnee, passed away Thursday, February 20, 2020.
He was born March 5, 1937 in McLoud, OK to Gertrue and Leon William Pickard.
Bob attended grade school in McLoud and graduated from Capitol Hill High School.
He proudly served his country in the United States Navy from 1957 to 1961 aboard the USS Nereus.
On June 16, 1960, he married his high school sweetheart, Louella Watts, and they lived in San Diego, CA, Oklahoma City, OK, McLoud, and finally Shawnee from 1998.
Bob was an Electrical Engineer for 36 years at Western Electric, AT&T. He was also a talented artist and entrepreneur. Bob greatly enjoyed glass etching and was known for developing innovative sand blasting techniques, as well as mastering many of the older, hand tooling techniques. He held several patents for sandblasting systems and owned his own glass art studio and sandblasting company.
Bob was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Leroy Pickard; sisters, Willa May and Delena Pickard; and granddaughter, Lauren McCain.
Those left to cherish his memory are; his wife of 60 years, Louella; 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Sherry and Dave McCain of Hampton, VA, Robin Elliott of Shawnee, and Tracie and Charles Portrey of Norman; son and daughter-in-law, Christopher and Tiffany Pickard of McKinney, TX; 2 brothers and 1 sister-in-law, Ralph Pickard of Westville, OK and Leon “Buster” and Glenda Pickard of Harrah, OK; 1 sister, Shirley Morphew of McLoud; 16 grandchildren; and 3 great grandchildren; and many other family and friends.
Memorial service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2020 at Aydelotte Baptist Church, Shawnee, OK with Pastor Monte Dean officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
