Rita Jo Jones, RiJo, was born October 8, 1952. She gained her angel wings on May 7, 2025, at 72 years young. Rita spent her last days surrounded by loving family and friends.
Rita was born in Lubbock, TX, the daughter of Sam and Lucille (Murphy) Campbell.
Rita graduated from Checotah High School in 1971, then went on to join the United States Air Force in July of the same year. She honorably served 26 years until her retirement in 1997.
Her honors included Air Force Achievement Medal with 2 devices, AF Commendation Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with 1 device, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 4 devices, Air Force Training Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal with 1 device, Air Reserve Meritorious Service Medal with 6 devices, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award with 1 device.
Rita especially loved sitting at her kitchen table listening to Elvis on her Bose radio, writing on her yellow notepads and chasing kids around watching them in their various activities. She was also known to shoot a squirrel or two, and please DO NOT put cheese on anything!
Survived by Rita are her son, Matthew John Craig Jones; Lifelong Friend, Wanda Anderson; numerous nieces & nephews with several bonus nieces and nephews.
Preceding Rita in death are her parents, Sam & Lucille Campbell, brothers Branson Campbell, Kenneth Campbell, Larry Campbell; Sisters Ricca Benton, Ruby Craig. Nephews, Calvin Benton; Niece, Lisa Newman.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Friday, May 9, 2025 and from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., Saturday, May 10, 2025 with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to greet friends and family. Services will be 2:00 p.m., Monday, May 12, 2025 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Tasha Casey-Loveless officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
