Peggy Girty, 90, of Shawnee, passed peacefully to meet her Lord and savior on June 2, 2026, after battling health issues for several years.
Peggy grew up in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School with the class of 1954.
Peggy married the love of her life Walter Girty on Augst 13, 1955 and was happily married for 64 years until Walter’s passing.
Peggy worked at Shawnee High School after graduation and transitioned into the banking industry, retiring from First United Bank in Shawnee.
Her hobbies included spending time at their lake house, crocheting, woodworking crafts and following all the events her grandchildren were involved in. She and Walt were avid OBU basketball fans and sponsored several foreign student athletes at OBU. They enjoyed OU sporting events and quickly became OKC Thunder fans.
Peggy was preceded in death by her husband; parents; two siblings; and one great-grandson.
Those left to cherish her memories are her brother, Homer and Ana Palmore; daughters, Belinda Myrick and Brenda and Greg Stroud; five grandchildren and spouses: Nicole, Candice and Bobby, Zac and Dana, Tyler and Tomoka, Whitney and Ryan along with 14 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to give a special thank you to Brookdale Assisted Living in Shawnee for the wonderful love, care and attention they gave Peggy.
The family will have a private memorial service at a later date. Cremation arrangements by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
