Pamela “Pam” (Barker) Floyd, 76, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Friday, May 30, 2025. For many, the world will never be the same.
Pam was born December 18, 1948 in Ada, Oklahoma to Grover L. Barker and Nina (Hunt) Barker. The Barkers were a sturdy, loving family. Grover was a World War II veteran who sailed on the U.S.S. Tennessee and went on to a career as a public-school administrator, teacher, and coach. Nina was the apple of Grover’s eye and the cleverest of partners. Grover and Nina were a true match. And Pam, as well as her younger brothers Billy Don and Gary, were privileged to grow up in a home where love, harmony, and solid values came easy.
Pam attended Hickory Elementary, Coalgate Elementary and Jr. High and Vamoosa High School. An excellent student, and valedictorian of her high school class, Pam was awarded a full-ride scholarship to East Central University, which she declined, eager to get married and start a family.
Pam’s proudest accomplishments were her two sons, Steven and Chuck. As a mother, Pam was a ceaseless encourager, advocate, friend, care-taker, and teacher. It was her calling and most heart-felt joy. She was excellent at it.
Later in life, Pam earned her Bachelor’s degree in Education and Master’s degree in Education from East Central University.
Pam’s career as an educator spanned decades. Pam was a Teacher’s Aide at Barnard Elementary in Tecumseh, was a teacher for 6th and 8th grade at Plainview Middle School and was a 4th grade teacher at Plainview Elementary in Ardmore. She was a 4th grade teacher at Gunter Elementary, 9th thru 12th grade teacher at Gunter High School and was a Special Education teacher in Gunter, Texas. She also taught 1st and 2nd grade as a Special Education teacher at Hayes Elementary and 5th and 6th grade Special Education teacher at Willard Elementary in Ada. Pam was an exceptional teacher with a creative style who loved her students and often bought classroom supplies, winter coats, and meals out of her own pocket.
Pam was an expert seamstress who designed and stitched countless quilts for those she loved. She adored her grandchildren. She made incredible biscuits. She was Grammy.
Pam was preceded in death by her parents; Grover and Nina Barker; grandparents, Fred and Bertha Ernest Barker and Virgil and Anna Lillard Hunt; and sister-in-law, Kathy Barker.
Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Steven and Denise Floyd of Shawnee, OK and Chuck and Chelsa Floyd of Conroe, TX; grandchildren, Rachel Floyd of Shawnee, OK, Andrew and Ariel Floyd of Tecumseh, OK and Augustus Floyd of Conroe, TX; 2 brothers and 1 sister-in-law, Billy Don and Jeanne Barker of Ardmore, OK and Gary Barker of Sherman, TX; nieces and nephews, Kyndra and Jeff Reed and their children, Abby, Kaelyn, Olivia, and Bethany; Ryan and Lindsay Barker and their children, Afton, Emily, Selah, and Lincoln; and Tyler and Casey Barker and their children, Parker, Brody and Creed; and many cousins and other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 5, 2025 and continue until time of service.
