Otho Link Montgomery, age 91, lifelong Tecumseh resident left this earth for his Heavenly home on Sunday, March 29, 2026 in Shawnee.
Otho was born on October 6, 1934, in Earlsboro, Oklahoma to Norphalet Otho and Violet Olymphia (Houtz) Montgomery the sixth born of ten children. He grew up in the community of Harjo and attended Harjo Public Schools.
He met the love of his life and future wife, Patsy Kieffer while she was working as a soda jerk at Morgan’s Pharmacy in Tecumseh. They were married on February 2, 1957, in a little chapel in Schuler, Oklahoma by Pastor Sid Tiffin who was Pastor of the First Church of God in Tecumseh at the time. Dad said they traveled to Tulsa with Pastor Sid Tiffin and his wife Mildred to get married because you could get a marriage license and get married in the same day, they wanted to get married and didn’t want to wait the three days, so that’s what they did. To this union four daughters were born, Treva, Ronda, Jacquita and Kristie.
Otho proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Texas, Missouri, Colorado and Alaska and honorably discharged after four years of service. Dad was very patriotic and always said he enjoyed being in the Air Force and serving his country; he especially loved being stationed in Alaska.
He was a member of the Tecumseh American Legion/Hill-Huett Post 260.
Otho worked for O.G. & E. for a short period of time before going to work for Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh in the early 1960’s where he worked for about 8 years, before going to work for Shawnee Milling Company where he retired after 30 years of service.
He was a devoted and loving husband, father, papa, son, brother and uncle. He enjoyed having all the kids and grandkids come for big dinners every Sunday and especially loved having his family for the holidays. Otho enjoyed fishing, gardening, and playing games, especially canasta, dominoes and bingo. He was an avid OU fan and loved watching OU football, basketball and girls softball. His family was the focal point of his life, and he loved spending time with his grandkids and taking them on nature walks and exploring in the pasture. He was also a pretty good cook and was known for his biscuits and gravy, fried potatoes, peanut brittle and his Texas fruit cake. He was a loving and caring father who was always willing to lend a helping hand. He was loved by many and will be truly and deeply missed.
He was preceded in death by loving wife of 66 years, Patsy Montgomery on March 14, 2023; his parents, Norphalet and Violet Montgomery; 2 brothers, Cecil Montgomery and Don Montgomery; and 5 sisters, Evelyn Gamble, Roberta Cotton, Cora Mae Strehlow, Helen Montgomery and Maxine Brooks.
Those left to cherish his memory are 4 daughters and 3 sons-in-law, Treva and Ron Henry of Bethel Acres, OK, Ronda and Larry Fryar of Harrah, OK, Jacquita and Mike Johnson of Prague, OK and Kristie Stastny of Shawnee, OK; 8 grandchildren, Beth Henry, Criss and Bryan Rath, Jon Roller, Jessica Johnson, McKenzie Johnson and fiancé Colton Hickey, Colt Stastny, Zack Stastny and Milena Stastny; 7 great-grandchildren, Ivvy Tate, Daisey Roller, Wyatte Roller, Braxton Rath, Eli Hickey, Amanda and Austin Webb and Harley and T.J. Qualls; 1 great-great granddaughter, Sarena Buss; 1 brother, Monty Montgomery of Tecumseh, OK; 1 sister, Irma Montgomery of Tecumseh, OK; 2 sisters-in-law, Anona Kieffer of Shawnee, OK and Beverly Kieffer of Bethel Acres, OK; and numerous nieces, nephews and other loving extended family and friends.
The family would like to express our deepest gratitude and appreciation to Regency Skilled Nursing, the nurses and staff for all their loving care, compassion, kindness, respect and friendship they showed our dad during his stay. We are truly grateful. The family would also like to send a special thank you to Good Shepherd Hospice for all their loving care.
