Norma McKiddy Obituary

Norma V. McKiddy, 89, of Tecumseh passed away on March 27, 2020. She was born in Duncan, OK on September 26, 1930 to Alvie and Virginia Bledsoe. She grew up in rural Norman. On July 26, 1946, Norma wed Arlice McKiddy. Their daughter, Sandy McKiddy, was born in March 1949, followed by another daughter, Sharon Sparkman, in 1953 and son, Steve McKiddy in 1956.

Norma studied professional writing at the University of Oklahoma and had numerous stories published in many different publications throughout her lifetime. Norma obtained her real estate license and earned her broker’s license in the 1970s. She was consistently awarded top listing and sales agent during her career. In 2014, she was recognized by Berkshire Hathaway as a member of the Multi-Million Dollar Club. She was also given the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Shawnee Board of Realtors. While Norma was an active realtor, she made many friends with whom she maintained relationships over her 50 plus year career. She also was the recipient of numerous community service and honor society awards.

Norma’s most important relationship in her life was the one she had with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. Norma was a faithful member of Sharon Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and was a part of the building committee. The Coats for Kids ministry was near and dear to Norma’s heart as she was prompted to start it after the death of her daughter, Sandy. Each year, Coats for Kids has grown and given out thousands of coats since its inception.

Norma is preceded in death by her husband of 57 years, Arlice McKiddy, her daughter, Sandy McKiddy, her granddaughter, Lindsay McKiddy and grandson, Benjamin Sparkman. Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Sharon Sparkman of Norman and Steve and Myra McKiddy of Tecumseh and her sister, Betty Weeks of Tecumseh. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Geary Wilson, Riley and Micaela Pennell, Summer Sparkman Moody, Chance and Lorreine Sparkman, Ryan and Jennifer Wilson, Brayden and Laura O’Donnell, Gabriel and Braedan Marshall, and Cal McKiddy. Norma is also survived by many great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.

The family has designated Sharon Baptist Church Coats for Kids as appropriate for memorials in lieu of flowers.

Private family services will be held with Reverend Clint Dawkins, Sharon Baptist Church, officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
