Mildred Bristow-Eakins

Mildred Bristow-Eakins, 99, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed from this life Monday, March 23, 2026 in Shawnee.

She was born July 30, 1926 to James and Lottie Frizell in Paden, Oklahoma. She was one of ten children.  

Mildred married Jacob Bristow on May 6, 1942 in Oklahoma City and to this union 5 children were born, Sarah, Wanda, Carolyn, Russell and Randy. Mildred along with her husband, Jacob farmed five acres east of Shawnee.   Jacob preceded her in death on June 27, 2001.  She later married Melvin Eakins on February 12, 2003 and he preceded her in death on November 26, 2015.

She loved babies and gardening.  She enjoyed canning what she harvested, playing games, especially Aggravation, Canasta, Bingo, Marbles and working puzzles. She enjoyed crocheting, fishing, cooking, spending time with her children and grandchildren and loved animals.

She was preceded in death by both her husbands, Jacob Bristow of 59 years and Melvin Eakins of 12 years; son-in-law, Richard Hutchinson; parents, James and Lottie Frizell; 3 brothers; and 6 sisters.          

Those left to cherish her memory are her daughters, Sarah Hutchinson of Tecumseh, OK, Wanda and Kenny Leathers of Shawnee, OK and Carolyn and Jim Peters of Shawnee, OK; sons, Russell “Rusty” and Diane Bristow of Shawnee, OK and Randy and Cindy Bristow of Tecumseh, OK; 9 grandchildren, Kevin and Jamey Hutchinson, Scott Hutchinson, David Oswald, Mark Oswald, Angie Oswald, Jeff and Kristi Peters, Jeremy and Wanda Peters, Shane Bristow and Shawn Bristow; and many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, March 26, 2026 and continue through service time with family gathering from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to greet friends and family.  Service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, March 27, 2026 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Carletta Joiner, Reverend Fred Owens, and Tyler Peters officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
