Mary Sulivant Obituary

Mary Sulivant, 83, of Macomb, Oklahoma passed away Monday, March 1, 2021 in Choctaw, Oklahoma.

She was born August 13, 1937 to Bailey and Ruby (Smith) Brown in Poteau, Oklahoma. 

Mary was raised in Poteau and graduated with the class of 1955 from Poteau High School.  She later attended Central State College in Edmond and earned her Bachelors of Education. Mary earned her Masters of Education from East Central University.  Following her Master’s degree she earned a Superintendent Certificate from the University of Oklahoma. 

She met her future husband, Charles Sulivant through a friend Connie Tucker at a Rodeo event and they married on July 21, 1956 in Poteau, Oklahoma.  After marriage they moved to Farmington, New Mexico where they began their family.  They moved back to Poteau and lived in Grand Prairie, Texas before settling in Macomb in 1972 where they have since lived. 

Mary taught school from 1972-1986 at Macomb Public Schools.  She later became Principal at Robin Hill Elementary and retired as Superintendent.  After retirement she and her husband Charles owned and operated Macomb Quick Stop Convenience Store from 1997 to 2007.  Mary also operated Macomb Tag Agency for years. 

She was a lifelong member of The Nazarene Church and currently a 50 year member of Shawnee First Church of the Nazarene. 

Mary enjoyed shopping, playing the piano at church, crocheting, cooking; and her family was her passion.  She was the best Mem to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. 

She was preceded in death by her infant daughter; parents, Bailey and Ruby Brown; 2 sisters, Anna Stephens and Nell Ross; and 3 brothers, J.O. Brown, Charles Brown and Robert Brown. 

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving husband of 65 years, Charles Sulivant of the home; 2 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Sue and Bobby Roselius of Choctaw, OK and Charlsey and Jerry Jabri of Ft. Worth, TX; 4 grandchildren Dr. Kassi Roselius, Dr. Austen and Dr. Kate Roselius, Tarik and Ashley Jabri and Shana and Mike Gingras; 4 great-grandchildren, Harper Jabri, Hadley Jabri, Nolan Gingras and Caroline Gingras; and many loving friends and extended family; and will be greatly missed by her faithful dog Brownie. 

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, March 5, 2021 with family gathering from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to greet friends and family at Cooper Funeral Home.  Service will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, March 6, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel  with Johnnie Stephens, Shawnee First Church of The Nazarene officiating. Burial will follow at Oakland Cemetery in Poteau, OK under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.  Please join the celebration of Mary’s life through Cooper Funeral Home’s Facebook page for live streaming of the service.
