Marvin Heffley Obituary

Marvin Ray Heffley was born September 11, 1937, to Rance and Neater Heffley in Maud, Oklahoma. He passed peacefully from this life on May 12, 2023, in McLoud, Oklahoma.  He was 85 years old.

Marvin Heffley, our dad was the most loving, kind, and devoted Dad and Papa you could ever know and although he didn’t say it often, “I Love You” was spoken in everything he did for his family.  As a man of integrity, Dad would never budge under any circumstances once he set his mind to something, and although we didn’t always agree with him, he was usually always right.

At 6’8” in the eighth grade, Dad was a giant of a man, and his heart was as big as he was.  He had the personality and natural charisma to make friends no matter the situation, and his laugh was infectious to everyone around him.  A man of many traits, he was always “tinkering” with something, fixing something for somebody, or doing something to help someone out.  He never met a stranger and would give you the shirt off his back.

Dad had an onery streak and loved to pester people.  I remember as a kid watching him pester waitresses when we’d go to the café to eat. He really enjoyed giving them a hard time, but they all loved him and knew exactly what he wanted to eat when he came in.  He also loved pestering his kids and grandkids. His greatest achievement was raising his 3 kids on his own.  He worked from daylight to dark most days to make sure we had everything we needed.

A man with simple taste of Dickies, suspenders, and button-down shirts, he focused on providing his children with the best life possible without worrying about himself. Our Dad was a great man whose impact will be forever felt by his family, who loves him dearly.  He was a selfless man whose passing leaves an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones.  His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever engrained in everyone he knew.

Marvin Heffley, AKA Pop’s or Papa is survived by one brother Robert Heffley, and wife Connie of Eufaula, Ok., his son Davy Heffley and wife, Charla of Norman, his daughter and son in law Julie and Mike Kinslow of Blanchard, Ok., his daughter and son-in-law Christine and Philip Cartwright of Tecumseh, Ok., and 13 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers, Luster, Donnie, Chester and Andrew Heffley; and sisters, Ruvenia Vance, Shirley Coon, Fern Mayo, and Martha Lewis.

We owe a special debt of gratitude to Kindra, Rachelle, and Wendy, of Elara Caring Hospice who made our Dad a priority and for becoming like family with their unconditional care and concern for him. They went out of their way to make sure he was comfortable and had everything he needed throughout this process.  A Special thanks to Ally who gave him his final bed bath.  You are angels, and we appreciate you so much.
