Lloyd Wayne Martin

Lloyd Wayne Martin, 87, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, March 25, 2021 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. 

He was born January 5, 1934 to Jess and Gladys (Asselstine) Martin in Ada, Oklahoma. 

Lloyd was raised in Ada and graduated from Latta High School.  He attended Oklahoma State University and earned his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree.  Lloyd later earned his Doctorate’s PhD from Michigan State University. 

Lloyd proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps and was honorably discharged. 

He married Sharon L. Wessel on January 24, 1957 in Oklahoma City. 

Lloyd served as Emeritus Professor of Horticulture at Oregon State University and Emeritus Professor and Head of Horticulture Department at University of Arkansas. 

He was a member of Rock Creek Baptist Church where he served as a teacher. Lloyd’s hobbies included woodworking and stained glass. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jess and Gladys Martin; son, Mark Martin; brother, Charles Martin; and sisters, Marguerite Deatherage and Evelyn Deatherage. 

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Sharon Martin of the home; sons, Mitch and Myra Martin of Oakland, TN, Mike and Carla Martin of Amarillo, TX and Monty Martin and partner Linda Allen of Spokane, WA; daughter, Maria and Mark Davis of Shawnee, OK; he was affectionately known as “Pops” by his grandchildren, Andrew Martin and wife Kena of Kingfisher, OK, Sarah Newman and husband Brad of Amarillo, TX, Elizabeth Hicks and husband Austin of Amarillo, TX, Dustin Martin and wife Candice of Austin, TX, Kristin Martin of Collierville, TN, Hailey Black and husband Garrett of Wagoner, OK, Branden Blaylock of Norman, OK, Carsen Blaylock of Shawnee, OK, Zach Davis and wife Eryn of Mustang, OK and Paige Davis of Mustang, OK; 13 great-grandchildren; sisters, Betty and Bill Ballard of Ada, OK and Geneva Ailey of Ada, OK; brother, Kenneth and Willie Martin of Kettle Falls, WA; and other extended family and friends. 

The family requests that memorial donations be made to Rock Creek Baptist Church. 

Memorial Service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, March 29, 2021 at Rock Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Mitch Martin and Reverend Mike Martin officiating. Cremation arrangements by Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
