Lena D. Sumka, 70, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, September 23, 2021 in Shawnee.
She was born April 17, 1951 to Woodrow Jack and Irene (Washington) Wilson in Pawnee, Oklahoma.
Lena was raised in Shawnee and attended Earlsboro Public Schools. She graduated with the class of 1969 from Earlsboro High School. Lena earned her Associates degree from Haskell Indian Nations University, Bachelors from Kansas University and her Master’s degree from Arizonia State University.
She married Wayne Sumka in 2004 in Stroud, Oklahoma.
Lena traveled for work in Colorado, Arizona and back to Shawnee, Oklahoma settling in the Johnson Community in 2000 where she has lived since.
Lena spent her life working as a Social Worker for the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
She was a proud member of Absentee Shawnee Tribe and Muscogee Creek Nation. Lena enjoyed traveling and spending time with her grandchildren, family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Woodrow and Irene Wilson; and brother, Woody “J.R.” Wilson.
Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Wayne Sumka of the home; 2 daughters, Cutke LaShelle Edwards of Colorado and Shawnee Dawn Edwards of Phoenix, AZ; 2 sons, Eric and Lauree Wolf of Arizona and Aaron Paul Wolf of Seminole, OK; 9 grandchildren and one on the way; 2 sisters, Lavern Tieyah and Louise Wilson; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Family respectfully asked for attenders to wear a mask and practice social distancing.
Visitation will be 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Sunday, September 26, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home. Service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, September 27, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Johnson Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
