Everett LeRoy Pound, 96, of Bethel Acres, Oklahoma went to his forever home in heaven on Monday, February 15, 2026, in Shawnee, Oklahoma, after a covid illness.
He was born on December 22, 1929, in Greensburg, Kansas, to Everett William and Mary Pearl (Lambert) Pound.
He married Myrtle Laurita “Rita” Hall on June 18, 1951, in Shawnee, Oklahoma at Trinity Baptist Church. After marriage they moved from Shawnee to Fort Worth Texas. A few years later they moved to Homer, Louisiana and then to Oklahoma City until moving to Bethel Acres in 1972.
LeRoy graduated from Santana Rural High School in May 1948. He graduated from OBU with a Bachelor of Science degree in Math in May 1952. He graduated from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary with a Master of Divinity in May 1959. LeRoy was ordained for the ministry at Cottonwood Baptist Church in October 1957. He went to Oklahoma University, where he played saxophone, before transferring to OBU. He was a mathematician working with a wind tunnel design team for Convair Aeronautics in Fort Worth. They were working on bomber designs for the U.S. Air Force.
LeRoy pastored First Baptist Church of Homer, Louisiana for several years. He also became an insurance agent and then worked for the IRS as a Revenue Officer where he eventually retired.
LeRoy was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He was a dedicated Deacon and Sunday School teacher for many years at Hopewell Baptist Church in Bethel Acres.
He enjoyed spending time with his family, gardening, fishing, camping, water skiing, snow skiing, and reading his Bible. He was an avid OU football fan.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rita Pound; daughter, Barbara McReynolds; and his parents, Everett and Pearl Pound.
Those left to cherish his memory are; 1 daughter and 1 son-in-law, Linda and Larry Guttridge of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; 4 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, Dan Pound of Norman, Oklahoma, Dale and Debbie Pound of Shawnee, Oklahoma, Gary Pound of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Larry Pound of Shawnee, Oklahoma; 3 grandchildren, Cheryl Chaney, Wesley Guttridge and Leslie Havlicek; 5 great-grandchildren, Jayden, Kasen, Dawson, June and Thomas; 1 sister, Joyce Strong, 1 brother, Kenneth Pound, and many extended family and friends.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Friday, February 20, 2026, and 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Saturday February 21, 2026, at Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh, Oklahoma. The celebration of life service will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, February 22, 2026, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel, with Reverend Larry Guttridge officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Shawnee, Oklahoma, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
