Layton Pinkston Obituary

Layton Pinkston the love of my life at 86 years went to be with Jesus on September 19, 2022.

He was born January 1, 1936 to Lavell Pinkston and Carrie B. (Brown) Pinkston. Layton attended Bethel school graduating in 1956. Layton participated in Ag winning the Gordon Richards achievement award in 1955-1956.  Layton also participated in baseball and basketball.

In June 1956 he met his soul mate Helen Bowen from Meeker. They dated for six months and began their life as husband and wife together on January 15, 1957. On January 15th, 2022 they celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. They celebrated with their family by having dinner at Paul’s Place in Shawnee. They discussed if they could make it to their 66th they both said yes but God had other plans.

For a brief time, Layton worked a few other jobs at Shawnee Mill, Jonco and 20 plus years he was the bus mechanic for Bethel schools, but Layton’s true passion was farming. Layton was born and raised on the farm that he worked that has been in the family for over 100 years. Besides farming his own land Layton helped Jack Swink with his farming, milking cows for him.  Layton also helped neighbor’s Bud Snider and F.D. Wood with their farming. Layton also served on several boards in the community. He served on the county fair board for 22 years, served on Shawnee Conservation district for 20 years and RC&D for 15 years. Layton was proud to serve his community through out the years.

Preceding Layton in death were his parents, Lavell Pinkston, and Carrie B. (Brown) Pinkston. Six Sisters, Ruth, Mae, Minnie, Opal, Emma, and Martha. Four brothers Lee, Noel, Wayne, and Ted.
