Iris “Lavon” Ayers, 78, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Thursday, June 3, 2021 at her home.
She was born on September 17, 1942 to Norman and Julia (Childers) Richards in Oklahoma in the small community known as Stella.
Lavon was raised in the Bethel Acres area and attended Bethel Public Schools. She has been a resident of Shawnee for the last 50 plus years.
She married Curtis Ayers on April 29, 1959 in McLoud, Oklahoma. He preceded her in death on August 29, 2016.
Lavon was homemaker and devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was also a dairy farmer/rancher working alongside her husband Curtis.
Lavon was a member of Lifeline Church in Shawnee. She was an avid golfer and member of Elks Golf Club for 40 plus years. She loved her family dearly and put the Lord first.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis Ayers; her parents, Norman and Julia Richards; and brother, Howard Richards and wife Carolyn Richards.
Those left to cherish her memory are 3 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Christie and Roger Douglas of Seminole, OK, Laura Ayers of Tecumseh, OK and Susan and Curtis Maxwell of Bethel Acres, OK; grandchildren, Mandi and Sam Stapp, Curt and Mary Wilkins, Brandy and Corey Thomas, Steven and Brittany Wilkins, Kevin and Shelby Wilkins, Kaylee Hill, Caleb and Kristi Amerson, Scotty and Bailey Hill, Steven and Megan Hill, Amanda Hill and Vel Jackson, Rae Atwara, Victoria Johnson, Ashley and Mark Anglin, Holly and Billy Green, Shelly Douglas and Chris and Sara Brock; great-grandchildren, Kodi, Alexia, Wyatt, Ayden, Aubree, Arlie, Jon, Curtis, Cheyenne, Adelyn, Jason, Anniah, Davien, Kagen, Kiya, Kashlyn, Kannon, Cassidy, Brittany, Mallory, Adyson, Brynlee, Weston, Madi, Timara, Michael, Elijah, Jakori, Bailey, Keiton, Dreyton, Keevan, Addison, Kambree, Josiah, Byree and Kollison; great great-grandchildren, Aabrie, Elias and Alaia; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Bob Skelly; brothers and sisters-in-law, Glenn Richards of Enid, OK, Lynn and Vickie Richards of Durant, OK and Larry and Sheron Richards of Norman, OK; and other extend family and friends.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, June 8, 2021 and continue through service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 9, 2021 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Mike Brakebill officiating. Burial will follow at Bethel Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
