L. M. Potter

May 23, 1931 ~ March 21, 2022 (age 90)


L. M. Potter, age 90, of Tecumseh, OK passed away after a short illness on Monday, March 21, 2022, in Tecumseh.

He was born May 23, 1931, in Fyffe, Alabama to Lloyd Monroe and Nora (Maness) Potter.

L. M. was born and raised in Fyffe, Alabama and attended school there.

He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and had tours of duty in Texas and California. He met Joy Dell Olsovsky in April of 1954 while hitchhiking from his base in Amarillo to Alabama. They were married on August 6, 1954 in Prague, OK.

After his time in the military L.M. went to work at Tinker Air Force Base in production control and retired after 25 years of service. After retirement he found his favorite job working at Pratt’s Grocery Store in Tecumseh and interacting with friends and patrons.

He was a devoted member of Sharon Baptist Church. He always had a smile on his face and a warm hello for everyone he came in contact with.

L.M. enjoyed gardening, coaching Little League sports, fishing, hunting, camping and sports. He was an avid OU football fan. Most of all, L.M. loved the Lord and ministered through his “God Is Good All The Time” caps.  L.M. had a special place in his heart for the Senior Citizen Center in Tecumseh.  He enjoyed lunch fellowship and his Carl’s Jr. coffee group. His wonderful sense of humor will be missed by his friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Douglas Potter; sister, Joyce Potter; brother, Terry Potter; and son-in-law, Danny Sparks.         

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Joy of the home; 2 daughters, Jackie and Charles Brooks of Tecumseh and Kathy Sparks of Tecumseh; son, Michael and Mary Potter of Plano, TX; 4 grandchildren, Logan and Katie Brooks, Camden Sparks, Tara Potter and Kari Ritchie; 4 great grandchildren, Riley, Mallory, Brittany and Dylan; 9 great great grandchildren, 3 sisters, Joan Patterson, Marlene Williams and Carolyn and Burlon Bohannon; special nephew Bill Potter; and numerous other family and friends.

Memorial service will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, March 25, 2022 at Sharon Baptist Church with Reverends Clint Dawkins of Sharon Baptist Church and Phil Thompson of Liberty Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
