John Ledbetter Obituary

John Robert Ledbetter, age 61 of Macomb Oklahoma passed away February 18th, 2021 after a valiant battle with esophageal cancer.

John was born in Richmond California and grew up in Sherwood Forest and attended church at Sherwood Forest Freewill Baptist Church. He built many lifelong friendships there.

He and his family moved to Macomb OK in 1974, where he graduated high school in 1978. He then attended East Central University and obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Social Services.

He started working at Buford White’s in December 1983 and found a love of working in the glass shop making this his career and passion with a career spanning 36 years. He built many friendships with his co-workers and customers along the way.

He became a member of Romulus Baptist Church in 1976 and was a lifelong member, serving many years as a deacon. To know John was to know a smiling and friendly face and he always had a good joke. He loved children and often carried candy in his pocket for the kids at church. He loved God, his family and friends, OU football, and peanut butter, probably in that order!

He was an avid sports fan cheering for the Oakland Raiders, Oakland A’s, and of course his Sooners and was a dedicated season ticket holder for many years. He also enjoyed listening to classic rock, jazz, and the blues and attending the annual arts and jazz festivals. John loved going to the movies, often catching the latest film each weekend. In recent years, he developed a passion for photography and visiting various historical sites in Oklahoma, especially along Route 66. He enjoyed traveling and went on many solo adventures, more recently going back to California where he lived as a child and reconnected with many friends. He was able to enjoy many bucketlist adventures with his family these past several months. Never having children of his own, he had a very special relationship with his nieces Kendra and Katie, cheering them on and supporting them in all of life’s events. He then became a great Uncle to Madilynn and Ava who truly brightened his life and again attended their school plays, tball games, dance recitals, and showered them with love and brought out their best belly giggles.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Brian and Betty Ledbetter, and his sister Judy Spicer.

He is survived by his brother in law Walter Spicer and his wife Sharon, his niece and nephew Kendra and Scott Willis, his niece and nephew Katie and Andy Boone, and great nieces Madilynn Boone and Ava Willis, numerous cousins and friends.
