Jimmy Neal Jordan, 79, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, passed peacefully at his home on May 30, 2026, surrounded by those he loved.
Jimmy was born October 13, 1946, to Jim and Lorene Jordan at St. Anthony’s Hospital in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. He was raised on a dairy farm in Little Axe, Oklahoma alongside his younger sister, Sharon, and his brother, Wayne.
When Lake Thunderbird claimed the family farm, the Jordans moved to Norman, where Jimmy continued to grow in both family and faith. While attending Pink Baptist Church, Jimmy accepted Jesus as his Lord and Savior at the age of 10 during Vacation Bible School—a decision that guided the rest of his life.
He graduated from Norman High School in 1964 and began pursuing a Bachelor of Business Administration at the University of Oklahoma. In June of 1966, he answered the call to serve his country by enlisting in the United States Marine Corps. After completing infantry training at Camp Pendleton, California, and subsequent tank training, Jimmy was deployed to Vietnam. He often recalled spending his 21st birthday—Friday the 13th—in Vietnam, a moment he never forgot. At the conclusion of his service, Jimmy survived a severe bout of malaria after returning stateside, a testament to his resilience.
Following his military service, Jimmy returned to the University of Oklahoma to complete his business degree while working nights at Tinker Air Force Base. In February of 1969, at a friends wedding, he met Sheila Teresa Hunt—the younger sister of the bride. Their story quickly unfolded into a lifelong partnership, and they were married on December 30, 1972. As they often said with a smile, though they “didn’t have two pennies to rub together,” they were as happy as could be.
Together, Jimmy and Sheila made their home in Tecumseh, where they became active members of First Baptist Church. There, they built deep friendships and faithfully grew in their walk with Christ. They were blessed with two children, Jennifer and John, and built their family home in the Green Acres addition, constructed by Jordan Construction.
Jimmy initially worked alongside his father in the family construction business after a brief time in sales and real estate. The business evolved from residential homebuilding into commercial projects, eventually becoming Jordan Contractors under Jimmy’s leadership, focusing on municipal infrastructure work. His work ethic and integrity were evident in every project he undertook.
Jimmy was a beloved lifetime director of OMCA where he served as president for a time as well as a member of The American Legion. He served as a board member with the Tecumseh Chamber of Commerce. Jimmy received the citizen of the year award as well as businessperson of the year. He along with Mike Harrell founded the Academic Booster Club that rewarded students’ for their academic achievement. He was also a founding member of Tecumseh Together.
Jimmy loved to travel, enjoyed good food, and cherished time spent in fellowship. Above all, he loved people. He had a unique gift for making others feel seen and valued. Whether speaking to a lifelong friend or a stranger on an elevator, Jimmy asked thoughtful questions and listened with genuine care. He remembered details—new jobs, upcoming surgeries, family milestones—and followed up, letting others know they mattered. With a vibrant laugh and steady perspective, he reminded those around him that most things simply weren’t worth worrying about.
In his final days, the fruit of Jimmy’s life was on full display through the many relationships he had nurtured over the years. His laughter, kindness, and steady presence will be deeply missed, but the lasting impact of his faith and love for others will continue. As he often believed and shared, because of Jesus, this is not goodbye—only “until we meet again.”
Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Lorene Jordan, and his brother, Wayne Jordan.
He is survived by his devoted wife of 53 years, Sheila Jordan; daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Matt Roberson; son and daughter-in-law, John and Kay Jordan; grandchildren, Chloe and Claire Roberson, Alyssa and Kenney Hatcher, and Jonathan Jordan; and great-granddaughter, Nayvee Kay. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Mike Allen; sisters- and brothers-in-law, DeCarla and Carl Slovinski, and Sonya and Michael Hinkle; along with a host of nieces, nephews, “adopted” OBU students, and many dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday, June 4, 2026, at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh, with family present from 5 pm to 7 pm. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday, June 5, 2026, at First Baptist Church in Tecumseh, with Reverend Clint Bryant officiating. Burial to follow at Resthaven Memorial Park in Shawnee, Oklahoma under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
