Janie Marie Brown

Longtime Tecumseh, OK resident, Janie Marie Brown, passed away in Shawnee, OK on January 1, 2026, at the age of 90.

She was born April 18, 1935, in Dale, OK to Paul Fay and Minnie Thompson.

Janie was raised in the small farm community of Dale, OK and graduated from Dale High School in 1953. She was married to Frank Brown in Shawnee on December 23, 1957. They settled in Tecumseh where they raised two sons. Both Frank and Janie remained in their home for several decades until their passing in 2001 and 2026 respectively.

Janie started her working career in 1953 assembling radio and television tubes for the recently opened Sylvania Plant in Shawnee and soon moved into their Quality Control department. At the time of the company’s closing in the early 1970’s she had been promoted to their accounting and payroll office. After this she joined J.A. Runge Co in Seminole, OK as their office manager. Her final job before retiring in 1997 was at Sunset Estates in Shawnee, where she once again held the role of office manager.

Janie grew up attending church and trusted Jesus Christ to be her Lord and Savior. She was a member of the Dale Church of Christ and Highland Church of Christ in Tecumseh for many years. At various times over the years, she volunteered in the church nursery and helped teach Sunday School. She especially adored little children and enjoyed having them around her and spoiling them whenever she could. She spent many happy days babysitting her great nephew and niece Ryland and Reagan Pereda, and the children of several friends and family over the years. They all loved her very much, and she loved all of them.

Janie was preceded in death by her father, Paul Fay Thompson; mother, Minnie Stone-Thompson; her husband of 43 years, Frank Brown; son, Donald Brown; brothers: Charles Thompson (Norma and Jean), Johnny Thompson (Sue).

She is survived by brothers: Glen Thompson (Linda), Loyd Thompson (Marolyn); sister, Laverne Thompson-Barker, all of Dale, OK; son, David Brown (Karen Laughlin-Brown); granddaughter, Courtney Brown-Myers (Kory); great grandchildren: Porter, Ivy, Murphy Myers, all of Tulsa, OK; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, January 8, 2026, continuing through service time, with family gathering to greet friends and loved ones from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 9, 2026, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Kory Myers officiating.  Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery, Dale OK, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home, Tecumseh, OK.
