James Leroy Shingleton Obituary

James Leroy Shingleton, 78, former resident of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Saturday, June 10, 2022. 

He was born December 30, 1943 in Shawnee, Oklahoma. 

James attended Placer High School in Auburn, California and then transferred to become the first graduating class of Del Oro High School in 1961 in Loomis, California. 

He worked as lineman, farrier and leather craftsman. 

James team roped every chance he got and he sure did love his horses!  He was a true cowboy.  After retiring from his career he took up crafting with leather.  He was well known for this craft and he loved to fix saddles. 

He was preceded in death by his father, William Cecil Bernard; his mother, Christine Alice (McElvain) Shingleton; step-father, Harold Shingleton; his beloved Aunt Marita McElvain; and grandmother, Anna May (McElvain) Gentry. 

Survivors include his fiancé, Veva Moore; son, Lance Shingleton, 2 daughters and 2 sons-in-law, Jamie Hazen and Mike of Roseville, CA and Wendy Shingleton and Jason Sakash of Oak Harbor, WA; brother and sister-in-law, Wayne Shingleton and Kathleen; 2 sisters and 2 brothers-in-law, Betty Lunsford and Don of Loomis, CA and Virginia Jordan and Dennis of Leander, TX; 4 grandchildren, Alan and Bryan Carlson, Samantha and Joshua Shingleton; 7 great-grandchildren; great-great grandbaby on the way; and other extended family and friends. 

Graveside Service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2022 at Brown Cemetery with Pastor Dan Megehee, Crosscut Cowboy Church officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
