James Tolbert King, 83, resident of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away on Saturday, May 27, 2023, in Shawnee.
He was born August 6, 1939, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Dock Bradford and Floy (Ragsdale) King.
James was the youngest of 8; Mary Ollie King, Juanita, Geraldine, Nina, Charles “Sonny,” Peggy and Jack. He was a Shawnee resident most all his life and a 1957 graduate of Shawnee High School.
He married Letha Ann (Thrasher) King on April 19, 1958, in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
James was in sales with American National Insurance and later McKesson where he retired in 2003 after many years.
James was a member of the Parent Committees for Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, and Explorer programs. He enjoyed camping, worked the Entry Gate at Shawnee School Sporting events both selling and taking tickets, involved with many activities at Sharon Baptist Church and loved to go to the beach and ride the waves.
He was preceded in death by his parents, all his siblings, and son-in-law, Paul Welch.
His memory is kept alive by his wife, Letha King of the home; 3 daughters, Kelly A. Laster of Shawnee, Terri C. King and Nancy Duncan of Ft Worth, TX, Crystal L. Welch of Flowood, Mississippi; son, James “Pat” King and wife Cheryl of Purcell; grandchildren, Aaron and Mika Laster; Jeremiah and Julia Welch, Chris and Ka Lisa King, Caitlin and Jake Zuvic; Jamie and Lynn Jones, and Amanda and Matt Powers; 16 great grandchildren and numerous nephews, nieces and cousins.
We want to give special thanks to Shawnee Care Center and Loving Care Hospice for their care.
Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, June 15, 2023, and continue until service time. Service will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 16, 2023, at Sharon Baptist Church in Tecumseh, Oklahoma with Reverend Clint Dawkins officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
