Hubert (Hub) Reed
Hub died peacefully in his home Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at age 89.
Hub was born in Maysville, Oklahoma to Edith and Floyd Reed. He also lived in Purcell before moving to Oklahoma City as a teen. He attended Capitol Hill High School where he excelled in basketball, making All State and High School All American. He played college basketball at OCU under the coaching of Abe Lemons and Paul Hansen. He was drafted by St. Louis Hawks of the National Basketball Association and also played for Cincinnati Royals, Los Angeles Lakers, and the Detroit Pistons.
After his professional career he was hired at the El Reno High School to coach boys’ basketball. He later became Dean of Boys and the Athletic Director. Upon retirement he moved northeast of Shawnee in 1997.
Hub was inducted into Oklahoma Sports Hall of Fame in 2020. Hub was an ordained Baptist Deacon at the Fairview Baptist Church.
Hub married Rosa Moore in 1960 and would have celebrated 64 years of marriage on July 1.
Hub was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, and uncle Ray Long.
Left to cherish his memory are his wife Rosa, his two daughters Jenna Reed Minyard and husband Richard of Mustang and Amy Reed Davis and husband Anthony of Shawnee, grandsons Pike Pennington of El Reno and Aaryn Minyard of Mustang, step grandsons Tony and Bryar Davis of Shawnee, and great grandson Jacen Estrada of Verden, and bonus great grands Iris and Indy Conley of Verden, Sister Collene Hill of Oklahoma City and sisters in law Linda Capps of Shawnee and Sue Moore of Choctaw, brother in law Don Clark of Shawnee, many nieces, nephews and special friends.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, May 30, 2024 with family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. to greet friends and family. Visitation will continue from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon, Friday, May 31, 2024 at Cooper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, May 31, 2024 at Immanuel Baptist Church, 1451 E. 45th Street, Shawnee, Oklahoma with Pastor Ernest Cowden, Fairview Baptist Church and Deacon Kelly Casey, Fairview Baptist Church officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh. The family has requested memorial contributions be made to the Fairview Baptist Church, 48502 Highway 3E, Earlsboro, OK 74840.
