Harry Hunter Obituary

Harry Hansen Hunter Sr., 75, of Macomb, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 8, 2026.

He was born on November 5, 1950, in Valdosta, Georgia, to William Hunter and Thelma (King) Hunter.

Harry proudly served his country as a United States Army soldier during the Vietnam War, where he worked as a medic—carrying that same spirit of duty and compassion throughout his life. After his military service, he continued dedicating himself to others by serving his community as both a police officer and a paramedic, remaining steadfast in his lifelong commitment to helping those in need.

On June 29, 2004, Harry married the love of his life, Joyce Hurst, in Opelousas, Louisiana. Together they built a life filled with love, laughter, and family.

Harry found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved working in his yard, spending quiet days fishing, reading, and watching documentaries. A man of faith, he devoted time to Bible study. He also had a deep compassion for animals, especially rescue cats and dogs, and delighted in feeding the birds and squirrels that gathered around his home.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William Hunter and Thelma (King) Hunter; his grandson, Braxten Hunter; and his sister-in-law, Brenda Hunter.

Harry leaves behind a loving family who will cherish his memory: his wife, Joyce (Hurst) Hunter of the home; his sons and daughters-in-law, Harry Hunter Jr., and Ashlee and family of Seminole, Oklahoma, and James and Kristi Hunter and family of Quitman, Texas; his step-sons and daughters-in-law, Kenny Ramsey Jr. and Jennifer and family of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Johnny and JeanAnn Ramsey and family; his sister and brother-in-law, Sheila and Doug Swinny and family of Macomb, Oklahoma; his brother, William “Billy” Hunter and family of Lincolnton, Georgia; along with 13 grandchildren and numerous extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.

Harry’s legacy of kindness, service, and love for both people and animals will continue to live on in all who knew him.
