TSGT George Nelson Thomas, III, 68, of Tecumseh, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, May 10, 2020 in Shawnee.
He was born March 28, 1952 to Curtis John and Betty Jane (Johnson) Thomas in Steubenniville, Ohio. Due to his father’s occupation, his parents moved him and his 5 siblings to Cleveland, Ohio.
George grew up in Cleveland, Ohio and graduated from West Technical High School. After high school he joined the U.S. Air Force and proudly served his county for 21 years retiring from Offutt Air Force Base as a Tech Sergeant. He lived all over the world during his military career moving to Tecumseh 27 years ago where he has since lived.
George Thomas and Sunday Hagenson joined together in marriage in 1989 and they resided in Omaha, Nebraska.
After his career and retirement from the military he moved his family to Tecumseh, OK in 1993 and he began working for Boeing as a Space Communications Technician.
George and Sunday divorced in 2002.
George Thomas and Kristina Wheelwright met at New Hope Baptist Church in 2004. George Thomas and Kristina Wheelwright, along with his 4 sons and her 6 sons, began raising their children together.
He was a member of New Hope Baptist Church and attended Sharon Baptist Church.
George enjoyed working on electronics, playing guitar and photography. He loved music and spending time with his family.
He was preceded in death by parents, Curtis and Betty Thomas; 3 brothers; and 2 sisters.
Survivors included his wife, Kristina Wheelwright of Tecumseh, OK; 10 sons, James and Ashley Nicole Thomas of Nowata, OK, Jason and Ashley Kay Thomas of Ft. Polk, LA, George Christopher Thomas of Tecumseh, OK, Christian Edward Thomas and Theresa Raulston of Maud, OK, Brett And Michelle Wheelwright of Sharon, OK, Bryan and Ellen Wheelwright of Shawnee, OK, Bradley Wheelwright of Oklahoma City, OK, Brock Wheelwright of Tecumseh, OK, Bryce Wheelwright of Tecumseh, OK and Brylee and Brittany Wheelwright of Navarre, FL; 10 grandchildren, Mason, Raidyn, Jonah, Britany, Aidyn, Remedy, Arya, Everly, Abree and Allius (A.J.); niece, Carol Liang of Cleveland, OH; and numerous other nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, May 19, 2020 and continue through service time. Service will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 20, 2020 at Sharon Baptist Church with Reverend Clint Dawkins, Sharon Baptist Church officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
