Gene C. Stroud

Gene C. Stroud of Shawnee joined his Savior on July 18, 2023 at the age of 84. Gene was born in Macomb, Oklahoma on November 30, 1938. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Vertie Stroud; brothers Josh, Glenn and Keith Stroud.  Those left to cherish his memories are his wife of 63 years, Joan Stroud of the home; son, Greg Stroud and wife Brenda of Shawnee; daughter, Cara Kegin and husband Glen of Shawnee; 4 grandchildren: Zac and Dana Stroud, Tyler and Tomoka Stroud, Alyssa Cawthon, and Whitney and Ryan Coots; 7 great-grandchildren, Callaway, Harper, Lyncoln, Baylen, Lyla, Cohen and Kenedi; sisters Nellene Perry and Irene McAlister; brother, Joe Stroud and wife Vera; many nieces and nephews and beloved friends. 

Gene attended both Macomb and Earlsboro schools.  Gene proudly joined the Navy on April 3, 1956.  Gene served his country well and was honorably discharged on April 2, 1962.  Gene then began his career at Tinker Air Force Base where he retired in 1982.  Upon retirement, Gene became a home inspector, managed a used car lot, and worked at Triangle Horse Sales for 30 years.  Gene was involved in selling Christmas trees with the family for 20 years. Gene’s hobbies included cross-stitch, woodworking, painting, and raising chickens.  He was the fix-it man for anything his family broke and obviously everybody that knows Gene knows he had a green thumb for gardening.  He enjoyed the fruits of his labor by sharing eggs and vegetables with family and friends.  There was nothing he was unable to accomplish with a tractor. 

Gene was a positive influence to anyone he came in contact with.  He was cherished by all and will be deeply missed by family and friends. 

The family would like to thank you for the outpouring of support during this time. 

Honorary pallbearers will be Tim Evans, Jimmy Wright, Rick Turner, Don Mills, Jimmy Farris, Welton Copeland and Ronnie Pledger. 

Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, July 24, 2023 at Blackburn Chapel Baptist Church with Reverend Larry Sparks and Ricci Head under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
