Gary Joe “Moose” Pitson was born on November 29, 1939 in Ravia, Oklahoma to Charley and Kitty (Smith) Pitson and passed from this life August 3, 2024 in Norman, Oklahoma at the age of 84.
Moose was raised in the Oklahoma City area and graduated from Capitol Hill School. He joined the U.S. Army right out of high school serving in Louisiana, Colorado, Texas and France.
Moose married Lila Tinsley on February 14, 1970, and they made their home in Oklahoma City until they moved to Pink, Oklahoma in March of 1985.
Moose worked for Montgomery Kone Elevator Company (Kone) and retired in March 2002.
Moose enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, playing golf, and sitting on the hill visiting with friends and family. He was a member of the Shawnee Masonic Composite Lodge #107, A.F. & A.M. for 37 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife, father, mother, daughter, Judy Kay Mason, son, Michael Ray Tinsley and grandson, Brandon Kyle Tinsley.
Survivors include his son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Toni Tinsley of Spring, TX; daughter-in-law, Dora Tinsley of Newalla, OK; sister, Linda “Suzie” Pitson Roschal of Lebanon, OK; grandchildren, Billy Tinsley, Michelle Robinson, Gary Pitson, Crystal Waggle, and Rhonda Jackson; numerous great-grandchildren; as well as many friends and other family members.
Visitation will be 12:00 noon to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, August 6, 2024 and continue through service time. Service will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Reverend Clint Dawkins of Sharon Baptist Church, Tecumseh, Oklahoma, officiating. Burial will follow at Brown Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
