Frank Davis Obituary

Franklin D. Davis of McLoud, OK went to his heavenly home, January 17, 2024 after a brief but fierce battle with Diffuse B-Cell Lymphoma. Frank was 91 years young.

Frank was born to James Samuel Davis, Sr. and Ora Juanita (Phillips) Davis on March 11, 1932 in Gatesville, North Carolina.

Frank grew up in North Carolina and East Tennessee graduating from High School in Chattanooga, TN. Frank attended Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN where he met his future wife Lois Ann Holbrook on a hayride during their Freshman year. They wed August 21, 1954 at First Baptist, Orlando, Fla, Ann's home church after college graduation where he earned a degree in Physics. In early 1955, Frank and Ann became the acting youth pastors at First Baptist, Orlando until Frank was activated by the Air Force.

After Basics at San Antonio, Frank and Ann were stationed in Memphis, TN where a daughter, Virginia (Ginger) was born. Soon an opportunity to program computers with IBM presented itself so Frank took a break from the Air Force and moved the family to Long Beach, Long Island, NY to begin his 25+ year career with IBM. While there, their second daughter,

Margaret (Margie) was born. Soon after the family moved to Yonkers and Frank commuted to Manhattan. The Air Force came knocking during the Cuban Missile Crisis needing Frank’s IT expertise and the family moved to Belton, Missouri. IBM wanted Frank to return so as soon as the Air Force released him the family moved to Golden, Colorado and Frank commuted into Denver. IBM moved families quite often and 3 years later Frank was transferred to Los Angeles and the family to Woodland Hills in the valley. Frank was continually climbing the corporate ladder, heading teams in the Systems Assurance division. In 1969 IBM again moved Frank, this time to IBM Headquarters in White Plains, NY and the family settled in Stamford, CT. This was the shortest commute Frank had ever had. IBM had one more move in mind in 1976. They were moving top executives back out to some branches and Frank selected to go to the Tampa, Fla. branch. If he was going to move to Florida he stated,” it was going to be on the water” and that is indeed what he and Ann did, living in Clearwater and then Tierra Verde, always a house or condo with a boat slip and yes always at least one boat. Frank retired from IBM in 1985 and worked for Tampa Electric for a few years before he co-founded Integrated Solutions Management in 1991. ISM provides IT strategies to Global 2000 companies and government entities. Frank fully retired and sold his stake in the company in 2001 when Frank and Ann moved to McLoud, Oklahoma to be close to their daughters and grandchildren where they built their home on the farm’s hilltop with a view. He was used to having a vista so that did not change, just the scenery.

Frank served the church and raised his family in church wherever they lived. While in Golden. CO they started a branch of a larger church in their newly built home. Church service was held in their empty living room furnished only with folding chairs and a piano, the youth met in their basement. Soon that church grew and transitioned to a gymnasium and then was able to build their own building. He and Ann again built a church while in the Tampa area. Frank served on numerous committees and as a deacon in many churches. He was proud to serve as a member of the national organization, Minister to Ministers. His final stop was membership in the University Baptist Church, Shawnee, OK. He especially enjoyed the lively and educated discussions of the Parlor, Sunday school class.

Frank stayed physically active his entire life. Early on he ran cross country and then jogged regularly which then transitioned to cycling in order to save his back. He was an avid snow skier and hiker, teaching his daughters and niece how to ski and to walk properly downhill on a mountain trail. Many camping trips included hiking to various scenic outlooks or destinations. Frank enjoyed kayaking and sailing. While in Florida he also became a certified Scuba Diver and enjoyed outings with Ann and Ginger and sailing trips with his brother Jim and wife Marilyn, nephew Jim and wife Donia and many friends. Frank was a certified navigator with the Power Squadron. Sailing teams utilized this skill by adding Frank to their sailing competition teams which he thoroughly enjoyed. Later in life Frank stayed active with the Shawnee YMCA and the Shawnee Senior Center taking classes, walking track, playing PickleBall and walking the mall.

He was still walking three miles a week when he became ill in late November.

Frank loved to travel and made sure that he set aside a month every summer to spend with his family doing just that. Later he and Ann traveled to Europe and made several trips to Alaska with their RV. After Ann passed in 2004, Frank and his companion Mildred Fowler took many trips and cruises until her passing in September of 2022.

Frank enjoyed his daughters’ activities in Girl Scouts,4-H, church youth, and many sporting events. He gladly transitioned to the next two generations in his support and often mentioned how blessed he was to be able to be involved with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.

He enjoyed traveling the country watching them exhibit their livestock.

He is preceded in death by his parents, James Samuel Davis, Sr. and Ora Juanita (Phillips) Davis. brother James (Jim) Samuel Davis, Jr. and wife Maryland, brother Roger Scott Davis, his wife of 50 years, Lois Ann (Holbrook) Davis and longtime companion, Mildred (Winter) Fowler.

Frank is survived by his daughter Virginia (Ginger) Pritchard and husband Steve of McLoud, OK, daughter Margaret (Margie) Davis of Sevierville, TN, grandchildren Lindsey Potts and husband Allen of McLoud OK, Tatum Wallace and husband Brock of Stillwater, OK and great grandchildren, Michael Pritchard, Khloee Potts, River Potts and Natasha Wallace in addition to niece Deborah Clapper and husband Jon, nephew James Davis and wife Donia, great nieces, nephews and cousins.

A celebration of Frank will be Sunday, February 25, 2024 at 6pm at the University Baptist Church, Shawnee, OK. Interment will be performed privately by the family at Dale Cemetery, Dale, OK.
