Francis “Frank” Allen Tiger, 83, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, June 6, 2023 in Shawnee.
He was born July 8, 1939, to John and Caroline (Hood) Tiger in Pawnee, Oklahoma.
Frank was raised in Wichita, Kansas and graduated from Chilocco Indian School. He earned his Bachelor’s degree from Wichita State and received his Master’s degree from the University of Kansas.
He proudly served his county for ten years in the United States Marine Corp during the Vietnam War.
Frank was a proud member of the Absentee Shawnee Tribe and was involved with his tribe, community, and culture.
He was a jack of all trades. He worked as a Social Worker for the State of Kansas, owned and operated a bar, was a truck driver, sorted mail at the post office, was a renowned poet and author of several poetry books, and was a philanthropist.
He was preceded in death by parents, John and Caroline Tiger; 3 sisters, Johnnie Mae Gokey, Juanita Folsum and Becky Rivas; and 3 brothers, Riley Tiger, Benjamin and Gerald Tiger.
Survivors include his sister, Nancy Tiger of Wichita, KS; and numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.
Wake Service will be held Friday evening, June 9, 2023, at Horseshoe Bend in Shawnee with service following Saturday morning at 10:00 a.m., June 10, 2023, under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
