Edna May (Mitchell) Montgomery of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on June 7, 2026, surrounded by the love of her family.
Edna was born on August 14, 1947, in Ardmore, Oklahoma, to Lewis R. “Doc” Mitchell and Martha Ann (Strebeck) Mitchell. She was raised throughout Oklahoma and carried with her a deep appreciation for family, community, and the simple joys in life.
She met the love of her life, Bobby Montgomery, following his service in the United States Navy. The two were united in marriage on July 9, 1966, in Dallas, Texas, and soon began building their life together in Shawnee, Oklahoma. They later raised their family in Maud before settling in Tecumseh, where Edna made her home for the past 35 years. Together, Edna and Bob shared a love of travel across the U.S, especially enjoying trips to Nashville, Tennessee, and Branson, Missouri.
Edna found happiness in life’s quiet pleasures. She enjoyed British comedies, working puzzles, playing croquet and bird watching, especially Cardinals. Above all, she cherished time with her family and hosted Sunday dinners, creating lasting memories around her table. She maintained several pen pal friendships throughout her life, including one that spanned an incredible 55 years.
A devoted collector and natural organizer, Edna took pride in her collections of salt and pepper shakers and antique bottles. If something was needed, chances were Edna had it tucked away. She was a member of the Rebekah Lodge and the American Legion. She was a former member of the Calvery Baptist Church in Shawnee and was current member of the First Baptist Church of Maud. She was an avid fan of Oklahoma Sooners and the Oklahoma City Thunder.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bobby Montgomery; her parents, Lewis R. “Doc” Mitchell and Martha Ann (Strebeck) Mitchell; her brother, Louis “Buddy” Mitchell; and her daughter-in-law, Amanda Renfro.
Those left to cherish her memory include her daughter and favorite son-in-law, Sherry and Danny Cramer of Maud, Oklahoma; her sons and daughters-in-law, James and Chasaty Renfro of Seminole, Oklahoma, and Carl “Dawayne” and Kinda Renfro of Paris, Texas; sister-in-law Sharon Johnson, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Daniel Cramer, Lyndsey Cramer, Scott Renfro, Chase Renfro, Mechelle Swanson, and Justin Renfro; nine great-grandchildren; her beloved dog, Beaux; and many extended family members and dear friends.
Visitation will be held from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, June 11, 2026, and continue until service time at Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, June 12, 2026, at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bobby Shatto, First Baptist Church, Maud, Oklahoma Officiating. Burial will follow at Tecumseh Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home.
Edna’s life was marked by her love, generosity, and steady presence. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew her.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Centric Hospice nurses for their loving care and kindness.
