Gene Austin, age 80, of Caddo, Oklahoma, passed away on Tuesday, December 26, 2023 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
He was born August 29, 1943 to Edgar and Mary (Smith) Austin.
Edgar was raised in Caney, McLoud, Midwest City, Oklahoma City, and Caddo all in Oklahoma. He Graduated from Caney Oklahoma in 1961.
On August 24, 1963 Edgar married the love of his life Paula Ray and they were married for 60 years.
Edgar worked at Fred Jones manufacturing for 42.5 years. He started in the oil field as an equipment operator when I-40 was being built. Edgar was also a farmer known as “Farmer Gene.”
He was a proud member of Caddo Church of Christ; He was baptized at Caddo Church of Christ in Caddo, Oklahoma in the late 1950s.
Edgar enjoyed coon hunting, team roping and gardening. He enjoyed playing softball and volleyball with us and the neighbor kids. He just loved spending time with his grandkids and the neighbors’ grandkids. When he moved back home to Caddo Oklahoma, where he lived these last several years. Edgar was always willing to help others.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, Edgar and Mary Austin; 3 sisters, Joyce Mustard Bonnie Willis and Geneva Williams.
Survivors include his wife, Paula Austin of Caddo, OK; daughter, Sandra Burnett (Austin) of Tecumseh, OK; son, Matthew and Charolette Austin of Shawnee, OK. 3 sisters Jessie Easton, Mary Meador and Jackie Austin; 3 grandchildren, 4 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.
Visitation will be from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Thursday December 28, 2023. Family Gathering to greet family and friends will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Cooper Funeral Home. Service will be 10:00 a.m. Friday December 29, 2023 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Erick Henson of Highland Church of Christ officiating. Burial will follow at Dale Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh
