Dr. Tobi Fried Obituary

Dr. Tobi Nan Fried, a committed and respected doctor for decades in Shawnee died on March 26 in Oklahoma City. She was 69.

Tobi practiced family medicine for 33 years at Redi Care Clinic until her illness forced her to retire in November 2018. Her patients came to know and admire her for her compassion and knowledge, and willingness to go the extra mile for them. Dr. Fried thought of her patients as her friends.

Her family invites the community to join them for a celebration of her life at 5:00pm on Saturday May 4 at the Mabee-Gerrer museum in Shawnee, which will be followed by a reception.

Tobi loved to travel and dine at fine restaurants around the world. She was also an avid reader of science fiction and romance novels. She prided herself on her manicuring skills, garnering numerous compliments on her nails. She spent many hours meticulously planning family vacations and was able to complete her fifty-state odyssey several years ago.

Tobi was born March 1, 1950 in Brooklyn, New York to Milton and Anita (Temares) Eisenstein. Tobi and her husband, Dr. Ronald Fried, married in 1970 and moved to Oklahoma in 1972.

Tobi received a Bachelor of Science from Brooklyn College in 1970, a Masters in Natural Science from Oklahoma State University in 1976, a medical degree from the Oklahoma College of Osteopathic Medicine and Surgery in 1979, and completed an internship at Memorial General Hospital in Union New Jersey in 1980 and a residency in internal medicine at the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in 1983.

Left to cherish her memory are husband Ron Fried, two sons Jeremy Fried of Norman and Joshua Fried of New York; one brother Ronald Eisenstein of Sudbury, Massachusetts, and many loving friends, patients and family. She and Ron were extremely proud of their sons. They also loved all their cats over the years and considered them part of their family.

The family has designated Special Olympics Oklahoma, 6835 S. Canton Avenue, Tulsa OK 74136 as appropriate for gifts in her honor.

Celebration of Life service will be 5:00 p.m., Saturday, May 4, 2019 at Mabee Gerrer Museum under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
