Dr. James E. Reynolds was born June 11, 1938, to Mark & Bee Reynolds in Ada, Oklahoma. “Jimmy” as he was often referred, spent his elementary school years in Fittstown, Ok and Ada, Ok. He graduated from Ada High School in 1956. His educational journey continued at Oklahoma Baptist University where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Math & Chemistry in 1960. He went on to further his education and obtained a master’s degree & and Doctor of Theology from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1976.
“Brother Jim,” as many called him, pastored many churches in his years beginning with Westside Baptist Mission (sponsored by First Baptist Church) in Hominy, OK. While going to seminary, he taught junior high algebra and worked at Montgomery Ward in Fort Worth, TX. After graduating from seminary, he became the pastor at Hilltop Baptist Church in Fort Worth, TX. From there, he was called to pastor at the First Baptist Church in Holdenville, OK. He was later called to First Baptist Church in Cushing, OK where he spent 12 ½ years. His last church was Nall Avenue Baptist Church for 17 years in Prairie Village, KS. He retired in 2008 after 50 years of ministry. After retirement, he continued to fill the pulpit at many churches in Shawnee, OK and surrounding areas.
On January 23, 1959, he married Anna Gail Stidham. Jim & Ann had three children, James Mark, Robert Neal, and Amy Diane. They have six grandchildren, Scott Reynolds, Michelle Reynolds, Steven Reynolds, Jessica Casey, Sylvia Deering, & Andrew Deering. They were also blessed to have five great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Mark & Bee Reynolds and his brother, Bob Reynolds. He is survived by his wife, Ann Reynolds of the home, his son, James Reynolds of Shawnee, OK; son, Neal Reynolds & his wife Stephanie Reynolds of Wichita Falls, TX; daughter, Amy Deering & her husband Tony Deering of Cushing, OK; as well as his six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Dr. Reynolds went to his Heavenly reward on Saturday, February 3, 2024. A visitation will be held on Thursday, February 8th, from 5:00 p.m.-7:00 p.m. at University Baptist Church. Public visitation will begin at 9:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 6th and continue until 3:00 p.m., Thursday, February 8th, 2024 at Cooper Funeral Home. The service celebrating his life will be held on Friday, February 9th at 2:00 p.m. at University Baptist Church in Shawnee, OK with Pastor Justin Dunn officiating. Burial will follow at Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
