Don Vawter Obituary

Don Wallace Vawter, 68, of Shawnee, Oklahoma passed away Sunday, November 8, 2020 at his home.

He was born June 15, 1952 to Joe Don and Peggy Lorrain (Rinks) Vawter in Fort Worth, Texas.

Don grew up in Denton, Texas, Norman and Shawnee, Oklahoma.  He lived the past 45 years in Shawnee.

He graduated from Norman High School.

Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged.

He married Donna Duffield in 1969 in Gainesville, Texas.

Don worked as a plumber at Dale’s Plumbing until going to work for the City of Shawnee at the South side treatment plant and retired in 2009. 

He enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing and sightseeing.  Don loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren and enjoyed making baby food for them.  He loved to tease and cut-up.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Vawter; and sister, Judy Powell.

Survivors include his wife of 51 ½ years, Donna Vawter of the home; 2 sons and 1 daughter-in-law, Don Vawter, Jr. and Laurie of Tecumseh and Timothy Vawter of Shawnee; 1 daughter, Dana Vawter of Noble; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Leeanne Vawter of Norman; numerous nieces, nephew and other extended family and friends.

Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 12, 2020 at Cooper Funeral Home.  Graveside Services will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, November 13, 2020 at Fairview Cemetery Gazebo in Shawnee under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
