Delbert Ray Totty, 80 of Shawnee, passed peacefully from this life Friday, October 24, 2025, in Shawnee Oklahoma.
Delbert was born in Memphis, Texas on August 13, 1945, to Vernon and Lorena (Hoisington) Totty.
As the son of a military family, he lived most of his childhood in California. Then his family moved, settling in Oklahoma.
He married Thixe, the love of his life in 1965. He and Thixe spent many wonderful years together, celebrating 60 years of marriage in June 2025.
Delbert began his career with OG&E and continued in the food industry. His later years were filled with carpentry, gardening and volunteering. He was a Jaycee and wrote poems for the Shawnee News Star Poetry Corner.
He especially loved being a grandpa. His grandchildren were the light of his life. He took great joy in spending time with them, making them his top priority. He always made sure they had a pool to play in, and he even built them a special swing set. He took pride in building things with his hands and had a true gift for woodworking and creating custom pieces upon request. In his free time, he also enjoyed playing Golf and spending time outdoors.
Delbert was preceded in death by his parents; mother-in-law, Jackie (Nanny) Henderson; stepmother, Hildegard Totty; sister, JoAnn Park; brothers, Vernon Totty Jr. and Claude Totty.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Thixe Totty, Shawnee, Oklahoma; daughter and son-in-law Shannon and J Cooper, Tecumseh, Oklahoma; son, and daughter-in-law, Scott and Stacy Totty, Henderson, Nevada; grandchildren, Kelsey Totty, Centerville, Virginia, Jake Totty, Chicago, Illinois, and Calli Cooper of New York City, New York; sisters, Birdie McNutt, Texas, Mary Sue Peterman, Oklahoma, Glenda Brown, Oklahoma, Verena “Neno” Smith, Oklahoma and Donna Smith, Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews and friends.
The family invites you to a memorial visitation on Monday, October 27th from 9:00 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., at Cooper Funeral Home, with a special family gathering to meet and greet family and friends from 4:00 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. to share memories.
