He was born October 4, 1941 to Elmer Neal and Emily Grace (Acklin) Smith in Canton, Mississippi.

Danny attended Bradford High School in Bradford, AR before enlisting in the U.S. Army from 10-15-58 to 02-07-1962, during this time he served in Korea.  In 1959 Danny met the love of his life Carolyn Jean Freeze, they married March 23, 1962.  Danny and Carolyn moved to Little Axe in 1972 where they have resided for the last 49 years.  While living here they have become members of the Etowah Baptist Church.  He worked many years at the Little Axe Public Schools as a Maintenance and Transportation Director.  Danny and Carolyn were long time member and callers of the Norman Silver Spurs Square Dance Club.  They spent many years traveling across the U.S. with the square dance group and his career as a truck driver.  He has been to all 50 states and 49 of them have been driving a semi-truck.  He was incredibly hardworking, and always finding things to piddle with.  He passed his hardworking mentality down through generations.  Danny took great pride in spending time with his family.  He loved taking his grandchildren and great-grandchildren to feed the cows.
