Connie Jean Peck

December 15, 1942 ~ August 31, 2021 (age 78)

Obituary

Connie Jean Peck (née:  David) was born on December 15, 1942, to James and Iris David of Columbus, Indiana.  Connie passed to her eternal reward on Tuesday morning, August 31, 2021 at the age of 78 years, 8 months, 2 weeks and 2 days.

Connie, a self-described tomboy, loved horses and enjoyed all manner of troublemaking with her numerous cousins growing up in the Columbus area.  In high school, Connie played girls’ basketball and was an active member of her school’s pep squad.

She graduated from Columbus High School in 1960 and attended Ball State University for one year.  She met the love of her life, Glenn Coleman Peck, on a blind date and, after a short courtship, she and Glenn were married by Reverend Ralph Newell of First Baptist Church of Columbus, Indiana on January 24, 1963.  Connie’s life-long best friend, Donna Sue Graham, served as her attendant.

Over the course of their 58-year marriage, Connie served as the constant mainstay for her family.  She kept the home fires burning while Glenn served our country as an officer in the United States Air Force.  Upon his retirement from 20 years of uniformed service, Connie supported Glenn in achieving his Master's of Divinity from Southwestern Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, and in serving as a Southern Baptist minister for the next 30 years.  Through one year-long unaccompanied tour of duty, the pursuit of two advanced degrees, two very difficult careers serving others, and at least a dozen household moves, Connie created a home of light and love, raising three children and, subsequently, three grandchildren.

Connie’s infectious laugh, tender heart, and indomitable spirit will be sorely missed by all who had the very good fortune to know her, to love her, and to be loved by her.  Connie will forever be remembered as an ardent Hoosier basketball fan, a devoted wife and mother, and a faithful servant of Jesus Christ.  Her gentle manner and abundant kindness were so prevalent in the very essence of who she was that animals, children, and those wounded in spirit gravitated to her for comfort and care.  Without a doubt, Connie believed that with God, all things are possible and, in that vein, she encouraged her children and her grandchildren to change the world for the better.  She leaves behind a true legacy of compassion and commitment to be the change we wish to see in the world.

Connie was preceded in death by her father, James Allen David; her mother, Iris Clark David; and her sister, Margaret Sue David. She is survived by her husband, Glenn Coleman Peck, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; her daughter, Carmen Yvonne Jacobs, of Camarillo, California; her daughter, Karen Lynn Peck, of Grafton, Massachusetts; her son, David Lee Peck, of Shawnee, Oklahoma; her six grandchildren:  Mason Lee Peck, Harrison Rodgers Jacobs, Devin Jacob Peck, Alexandra Makenzie Peck, Alice Jean Peck, and Eli Coleman Peck; and her great-granddaughter, Aria Lee Peck.
