Charles David Scovel, age 73 of Tecumseh, Oklahoma, passed away at his home, Monday, June 15, 2026, surrounded by his family.
He was born March 3, 1953, in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Charles Edward and Betty Belle (Harman) Scovel. He was raised in Shawnee and graduated from Shawnee High School with the class of 1971.
David married Joanie Sue Gokey on August 19, 1977, in Tecumseh, Oklahoma. After their marriage they made their home in Tecumseh.
He worked as a maintenance technician for Sonic several years before retiring. After retirement, he worked as the manager of Dream Center of the Heartland, where he and Joanie served over 100 children during their time of service. He was proud to be a foster parent and care for many children during their time of need. He was a dedicated member and served in the local church. He loved watching westerns and listening to country music.
David is preceded in death by; his parents; his daughter, Amanda Hollingshead; his sister, Barbara Sherrill; and his in-laws, Leo and Mary Gokey.
Those left to cherish his memory are; wife, Joanie Scovel, of the home; daughter, Candy Grider and husband Kendall Green of Tecumseh; daughter, Autumn Munier and husband Brian of Tecumseh; daughter, Charli Scovel and husband Bayler Fowler of Tecumseh; son, Montana Scovel of Tecumseh; son, Rayshawn Wilson of Tecumseh; daughter, Cheyenne Scovel of New Mexico; grandchildren; Skylar Hathorn, Hunter Hathorn, Ryder Scovel, Jaycee Munier, Payton Munier, Kash Hollingshead, and Eli Hollingshead; sister, Brenda Ballou and husband Charley of Tecumseh, and numerous extended family and friends.
Visitation will be from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM Wednesday, June 17, 2026, at Cooper Funeral Home. Funeral services will be 10:00 AM Thursday, June 18, 2026, at Victory Family Church, Shawnee, with Pastor Corey Webb officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Hill Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
