Charles Norman Obituary

Charles Edward Norman, 80, of Shawnee, Oklahoma went to heaven on Monday, September 12, 2022 in Shawnee.  He was a kind gentle man that was loved by all. 

He was born September 13, 1941 to Johnnie Edward and Claretta Thena (Merriman) Norman in Stuart, Oklahoma. 

He grew up in Stuart and McAlister, Oklahoma.  Charles moved to National City, California when he was a teenager.  He graduated from Sweetwater High School in California. 

Charles married Catherine Cyr on February 7, 1970 in National City California. They made their home in National City until 1976 when they moved back to Oklahoma to Bethel Acres where they made their home and their family for 25 years, until moving to Shawnee where they have since lived. 

He proudly served his country in the United States Army for 4 years and was honorably discharged. 

Charles retired after 44 years of employment at Tinker Air Force Base as a tractor operator. 

He was a member of Grace Church in Shawnee, Oklahoma and Grace Church Food Ministry.  Charles enjoyed any and all sports, especially OU sports and most amateur sports. He enjoyed tinkering and especially enjoyed working on old cars and trucks.  Charles liked working out, taking walks, gardening and woodworking.  He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s events.  He was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather and will be missed dearly. 

He was preceded in death by daughter, Eilene Plaza; parents, Johnnie and Claretta Norman; sister, Barbara Norman; and brother, Lonnie Norman. 

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 52 years, Catherine Norman of the home; daughter and son-in-law, Cheri and Jeff Dailey of Kingston, OK; son and daughter-in-law, John and Danielle McDowell of Shawnee, OK; son-in-law, Anthony Plaza of Midwest City, OK; 2 brothers and 1 sister-in-law, Nolan and Livia Norman of Shawnee, OK and R.C. Norman of Sanger, TX; sister-in-law, Anita Norman of Sanger, TX; 3 grandchildren, Rylee and Logan  Hodges of Calera, OK, Kynlee Dailey of Kingston, OK and Johnathan Plaza of Midwest City, OK; numerous nieces, nephews and other extended family and friends.   

The family has designated Grace House Ministries, Grace Church, P.O. Box 126, Shawnee, OK  74802, phone: 405-765-4480, as appropriate for memorials in lieu of flowers. 

Visitation will be 9:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., Friday, September 16, 2022 and continue through service time.  Services will be 1:00 p.m., Saturday, September 17, 2022 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Scott Hendry, Grace Church, Shawnee, OK officiating. Committal Services will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 20, 2022 at Fort Sill National Cemetery under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
