Cary Russell Coker, 64, of Edmond, Oklahoma passed away at his home on January 23, 2024.
Cary was born on October 16, 1959 in Shawnee, Oklahoma to Jimmie Dale Coker and Sonya Coker.
Cary grew up in Del City, Oklahoma and was a graduate of Del City High School in 1978.
As a kid, Cary loved playing sports, spending time at the family farm with his friends and cousins, and was an integral part of Del City High School’s 1976 state championship in football.
After high school, Cary attended East Central University on a baseball scholarship and graduated in 1982 with a Bachelors Degree in Education.
Following college, he began a career in education and coaching first as the head high school baseball coach for Chandler High School and then a football and baseball coach for his alma mater, Del City High School.
Cary then transitioned into a career in insurance with Farmers Insurance where he eventually became a District Manager and retired in 2016.
Cary enjoyed spending time with his two daughters and family, playing golf, and attending sporting events.
Cary will be remembered for his sense of humor, mentorship as both a coach and businessman, and his natural ability to connect with people.
Cary is preceded in death by his mother, Sonya Coker.
Cary is survived by his father and step-mother Jimmie Dale Coker, Sr., and Pat Coker, his brother, Jimmie Dale Coker, Jr., his daughters, Jordan Terry and Hannah Treadaway, his sons-in-law, Kyle Terry and Isaac Treadaway, and his grandchildren, Mia Terry, Griffin Terry, and Lottie Treadaway.
A celebration of Cary’s life will be held at Sharon Baptist Church in Tecumseh, Oklahoma at 2:00 PM on January 29, 2024. Burial will follow at New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Bethel Acres, Oklahoma.
