February 15, 1947 – December 24, 2023
Carole Lynn Turner, age 76 of Shawnee passed away on Sunday, December 24, 2023 in Shawnee surrounded by her family.
Born February 15, 1947, in Pomona CA, Carole spent her childhood with her parents, William and Dorothy Porter, on their family farm. She enjoyed horseback riding and exploring in the Tehachapi Mountains in her youth. She graduated from Tehachapi High School in 1964 and attended college.
Shortly after leaving college she moved to Oklahoma with the rest of her family following soon after the birth of her first daughter, Katie.
Carole was a business owner in Tecumseh for more than 30 years, owning Turner & Associates Insurance Agency, Flick City, and Udderly Wonderful Things with her sister Luanne.
Her greatest joys were her 2 daughters. She was also a very proud Gree—to her only grandson, Reed.
She loved reading, card making, decorating, antiques, and especially loved spending time with her girls. She was a long time supporter of the arts. She particularly appreciated the theater and was a 30 plus year OKC Broadway season ticket holder. She also enjoyed her church friends and attended Smiley Circle at Broadway United Methodist Church in Tecumseh for many years. She was a long time member of Chapter W of P.E.O., and cherished the relationships with her fellow sisters.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, David Porter; and her sister, Luanne McMahan.
Survivors include her daughters, Katie Frost of Shawnee, and Julie Turner of Shawnee. Step-daughter Kim Hanson of The Colony, TX; niece Kacey Bishop of Sparks, and nephews, Ty McMahan of Oklahoma City; Tim McMahan of Purcell; and Matt Porter of Newcastle; a sister-in-law, Vickie Porter of Prague; a brother-in-law, Ron McMahan of Tecumseh, and many other friends and family.
A memorial service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday January 27, 2024 at Cooper Funeral Home Chapel with Matt Porter officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home. A reception will follow the service at Broadway Chapel, 704 S. Broadway, Tecumseh, Oklahoma
The family has designated the Barbara Bush Literacy Foundation as appropriate for memorials in lieu of flowers.
