Brenda Sue Newnam, age 57, of Shawnee, Oklahoma, passed away on February 10, 2024 in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
Brenda was born October 29, 1966 in Midwest City, Oklahoma to Marion and Zorrena (Watson) Newnam.
Brenda attended grade school at Sooner Rose Elementary and then attended junior high at Del Crest in Del City. She graduated from Dale High-school in 1984. While at Dale she served as FFA chapter President and enjoyed showing lambs and cattle. After graduating from Dale High School, she received her Bachelors Degree in Animal Science at Oklahoma State University. During college she loved competing and traveling with the meat judging team, along with being part of the animal science club.
Brenda and her family lived in Del City, Oklahoma. When she was sixteen the family moved to Shawnee, Oklahoma where they gardened and raised various types of livestock. She spent many hours raising bottle calves, lambs, goats, chickens, ducks, pigs, and commercial cows. She and her family spent many hours in the summer cutting, raking, baling, and hauling hay. She spent many hours in the winter opening truckloads of Hostess Ho-ho’s, snowballs, and day-old bread to feed the cattle when there was a feed shortage, and busting ice off the ponds. One of her favorite memories was when the ice was nearly 12 inches thick in the early 90’s and she drove the pickup on the ice to bust it. There is a rumor that the truck may or may not have gotten stuck in the pond.
Brenda started her business career at Arthur Harris Ford, where she met Jeff, the love of her life. At Harris Ford she was in sales, and later became a finance manager for many years. She then started Newnam Car Company where she enjoyed going to car auctions, buying, fixing up, and selling cars. Brenda had plenty of help from Uncle John Newnam, Cousin Mike Wright, Nephew Jake Nossaman, and Jeff at the car lot. One of the many memories is Jake taking off a hot radiator cap and getting burnt, then Uncle John chased Jake around the car lot with mustard to treat his burns. They all shared lots of great times together making memories at the car lot. Her next venture was managing the business at Air Depot Animal Hospital, where she worked side-by-side with her sister Dr. Cindy Newnam, providing excellent care for pets and their owners for 23 years. She was a great role-model and mentor for all of the clinic employees.
Brenda loved many things in life, she had many special dogs that brought her joy and happiness. She enjoyed traveling with her family and friends. She went on several cruises with her sisters, these trips were always eventful. Brenda and Jeff enjoyed going to the lake and traveling together to Dallas first Saturday computer and electronic sale under the bridge at midnight. They also enjoyed traveling to Las Vegas for the Consumer Electronics Show. While in Vegas they went on many helicopter rides to the Grand Canyon, NASCAR adventure tours, and enjoyed taking nieces Kimberly and Madi to explore Las Vegas and the Grand Canyon. For many years Brenda, Jeff, and family visited South Padre Island once a year to vacation together. She loved dolphin watching, spending time on the beach, shopping, and enjoying the local restaurants. Another favorite destination started when she was a child when the families visited Cuchara, Colorado and staying in the Harris Cabin. This tradition carried on later in life with her family as they explored Cuchara together. While in Colorado they explored the mountain trails, the Dog Bar and Grill, shopping in the town square, and spending time together. In most recent years Brenda and Jeff spent time together putting on a spectacular Christmas light display for the entire community to enjoy.
Brenda is preceded in death by her father, Marion Newnam; mother, Zorrena (Watson) Newnam; and sister, Connie Newnam-Woodward.
