Bonnie Jeanne Coffey was born September 21, 1930, In Asher Oklahoma to Virgil and Stella “Jeanne” Coffey. She passed away on February 1, 2026, in Seminole Oklahoma with family by her side. She lost her dad when she was two and her mom when she was nine and was raised along with her little sister, Peggy, in the country home of her grandparents, Tom and Elvira Dowd, in Asher Oklahoma. Her mom’s younger siblings, Homer and Delbert Dowd, were also in the home. She said they were poor and times were hard, but the home was always full of love. She has fond memories of her childhood, including attending a one-room schoolhouse called Gravel Hill where she loved her teacher, Miss Cyrilla Gastor. She also loved playing with all her cousins, the Glenns, and her German Shepherd named Curley that she would feed her Post Toasties to through a hole in the screen door.
When she was seventeen, her good friend Ruth introduced her to her brother, Theadore Jones, at a dance held at a country home in Asher, Oklahoma and she knew he was it for her. They were married in Ada, Oklahoma on July 2, 1948, and were happily married for 68 years, until he passed away in 2017. They had one son, Michael Jones, and a daughter lost at birth, Evelyn Kay Jones.
She and Theadore, who was from Stratford Oklahoma, moved to Oklahoma City after they were first married so Theadore could have work. While there she worked as a waitress at the historic Dolores Restaurant. They both decided after living in Oklahoma City for a while they were ready to get out of the city and back to the country. They then moved to a farm in Tecumseh off of Hwy 102 and then later moved to another farm in Tecumseh off of 13th street before moving in 1971 to Earlsboro, Oklahoma where they enjoyed living the rest of their lives. She and Theadore both retired from Tinker AFB.
Bonnie never met a stranger and would visit with everyone who crossed her path. She believed in God with all her heart and loves the song, “Roses Will Bloom Again”. She loved reading, collecting antiques, listening to old country music and living life on the farm. When she was not able to get around well anymore, she enjoyed going for rides down to Asher by the old home place where she grew up and going down to Lake Eufaula where she and her husband had a small cabin. She loved her family, friends and dogs. Her favorite pastime was sitting on the porch in the country.
She is preceded in death by her parents, grandparents, sister, Peggy Elms and daughter-in-law who was a daughter at heart, Debbie Jones.
Those left to cherish her memory are son, Michael Jones of Norman, two granddaughters, Amy Jones of Earlsboro and Ashley and her husband Brent Edgemon of Oklahoma City, her grand puppies, Hannah and Stetson, and other loving extended family and friends.
“We love you Grandma. God bless you. This is not goodbye but see you later.”
