Bessie Doris Herndon

(Bessie) Doris Herndon, of Gainesville, VA passed on March 30, 2021 at the age of 90. She was born on November 9, 1930 in Topeka, KS. Doris, formerly of Oklahoma and a long-term resident of Texas became a resident of the Northern Virginia area in 1999.

Doris was a former employee of the Asher, OK school system and a medical transcriptionist in Shawnee, OK until her retirement.

She is survived by son Benjamin (Gudrun) of Jacksonville, Florida, daughters N. Dianne Luna (Art) of Gainesville, VA, Paula Lytle (Darwin) of Forney, TX, 10 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris was a parishioner of the St. Clare of Assisi Catholic Church in Clifton, VA and a member of the "Ladies of St. Clare" ministry. She's remembered for her friendly smile, generosity, Christmas fudge and crocheting expertise.

Graveside Service will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, April 10, 2021 at Wanette Cemetery, Wanette, OK with Dr. Mike Herndon officiating under the direction of Cooper Funeral Home of Tecumseh.
